Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I signed up for this race not knowing much about it. Anyone have any experience with it? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This will be my first time on this course as well. I know I will have to get the swim over with in a timely manner, the bike route is pretty much flat and the run course as well is flat. I have been doing 1 race per month since March of this year to get me ready for this race. I'm pretty sure you would do well. Good luck! |

Cycling Guru ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First time for me as well. Doing it as a comp. entry for Gu as my sponsor. Really grateful to them and want to do well so they don't feel like they wasted their entry. ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had friends in it the last two years. The course is a bit different this year, but still looks to be flat and fast. Potomac River can be really murky and deceivingly swift if there is a heavy rainfall a few days before the race. I hear the field doubled this year to about 6,000 racers making this an exercise in chaos management too. Cross your fingers for an early wave and a good spot in transition. Should be fun! |

I need to remember not to open my big mouth before I know what is going on. I PLAN to be there...but the AF still hasn't decided if I can go. There, that's the REAL statement... |

Cycling Guru ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was in the Military Challenge group as part of my entry (based on prior service) , but I just started working for the fed. government and think I want to race in the Congressional Challenge as well. I think I have to choose one or the other, I can't be in both ....... waiting to hear back from the race org. |

I don't know why I even did this to myself. I am suffering on the bike these days. I am as slow as I have ever been and I can't figure out why, although part is fear since my last fall. The AF better let you off! |

Are you SERIOUS??? That's just insane.... I'm signed up - but had no idea it was going to be that HUGE! I did it the first year of the race, and it was MUCH smaller than that! I hope the course can handle that many people!!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Now that this is my "next race" I was poking around the site today.... |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just checked with the race organizers and the race has doubled in size to 6000. I have my doubts that they can handle this. Let's hope they are better organized than last year. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() RE: Parking. All of the parking down near the race course will be taken up quickly. There are a few lots, but they are restricted. Last year, nearly everyone rode buses down to the start/transition area from the 9th and H Street area of DC where there is plenty of parking. I parked right on H Street at about 5 a.m. without a problem. What is different is that now the start and finish are at the same area so there is no good way to get to the transition in the morning unless someone drops you off or unless the organizers run shuttles from the downtown area. If you are alone, and there are no shuttles, you may want to park on the streets near a hotel and then just grab a cab from the cabstand. For five bucks, it is not a bad deal. Based on your description, I'd bring the truck. DC is always a parking mess...you'll have a hard time with the Honda and a hard time with the truck. Might as well have a better trip. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will be parking at Huntington Metro Station, which stop is the closest to the Transition area? And or Race check-in? |

And or Race check-in? if you are planing on taking the metro to the race, its not normally open on weekends until 7am. as for the check in i think dupont circle is the closest, and is still about .5 mile away. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Isnt, the transition in East Potomac Park? Why is the official Hotel so far away? I just want to make sure that I was fairly close to the race site so I booked a room at a Marriott on 13th and Penn... Isnt this closer to the transition or have i just totally misread the maps etc... |

Isnt this closer to the transition or have i just totally misread the maps etc... I think transition is on the other side of the tidal basin than East potomac park, between independence, ohio and W basin drive. 13th and penn is still a bit away, but not so bad. the 'official' hotel, i think the washington hilton has a shuttle service the morning of the race. last year i got dropped off in front of the hotel and took the shuttle to transition since a bunch of roads near transition are closed. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can't find info anywhere about this...is this race wetsuit legal? |
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() It has been wetsuit legal the last couple of years but only by a degree or two so watch out if we have a very hot September. As usual we won't know for sure until the morning of the race. Good luck! Graeme Edited by dougiegr 2009-08-24 3:47 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Last year air temp was in the mid 90's and it was wetsuit legal, barely. I think it was hotter than most races I have done in Florida. Plus I started in the second to last wave making it worse. |
