Subject: Question for Ron and Marma

Why can we not have a spot on the first page that has results from key professional races (i.e. IM, 70.3, escape series), that have the top 10 men and women. You know kind of like that other site....

It would be nice to not have to go over there to look up the results from the weekend races...

Plus I think that it would help get newbies more interested in bigger races if the new people knew who pros were like:
Lindsey Corbin
Andy Potts
Melanie McQuaid
Bryan Rhodes etc

Is there anyway you guys can hook that up?

Somebody other than me would have to do the work...gathering results, formatting, submitting them, etc.  That would be time consuming for me.  But even so, I'm not sure how 'used' of a article-type this would be for the people here?

I would actually be willing to help gather the information... I mean how hard is it to cut and paste the top 10 results in a email and then pm them to you... and not talking about getting them from the other site....

I think you would be suprised at how many people would go to look and see who won the latest IM or 70.3...

Think about it, if you think it is worth a go, I would be willing to help with the information gathering...

Personally, I dont consider BT to be a tri news site vs an organic community of tri folks.  I could see that being a great page one thing on race days for BT participants in major events, but that is subjective and the tracking threads already take care of that.  Just my two cents.

Have to agree.  I don't care that much about the pros on the big races.  I'm much more interested in tracking the BT folks during a race and that happens already.

Plus, if you are interested in the pros during the big races, it's pretty easy to get that information on other sites.

Guess I don't understand what's wrong with going to other sites.  If it's already being done somewhere else, why make more work for Ron and Marma here?

Because I figured that as a member, we put in requests for things we would like to improve the site or make it have more features...

All of it is work...

I totally see both sides of this but it does seem like a lot of unecessary work to do just to see results.  Doesn't really aid in the solution of the user in the end.

I think I understand what you just wrote, but with all due respect, what kind of business theory is that?

Its important as a business owner to know what your competitors are doing and respond accordingly.  Sometimes that response is to add on additional services at the expense of greater costs with no direct revenue.  You would do this because you don't want your customer leaving and you want to show your advertisers (who help pay the bills) that your numbers are increasing.

Sometimes it means not adding on a new service because the costs cannot be justified or its beyond the scope of your business model (which might be the case with BT).

At no times, however, does a business owner decide to forgoe a new service because the competitor down the "proverbial" internet highway is already offering it.

I would have to agree with Chris in that having front page content on major races would be beneficial for BT'ers as they migrate from true beginner to the experienced.

The challenge here is to grow the base of discussion beyond buckets and down the continuum of more advanced training.  The Ironman forums are a start but something that should be supported in other sections of the site.

Do not get me wrong, this site is geared towards beginners and helping them enter the sport of triathlon.  That should remain the focus ... but that should not be the end point for users who have grown to love the community here.

As to Ron's point about content being time consuming, I can see that being an issue.  That sais, I believe we are the highest rated triathlon site on the web when it comes to traffic. Perhaps a deal could b struck with VeloNews (who is trying to get into the triathlon coverage business) or another content provider to cross-polinate?

Thank you Brian...

I guess my point was also that while this is for beginners, this site has lots of people who are no longer beginners and continue to stay on this site because of what it is. I know I did not see this site as a pre-k or jump off site where I learned a little bit about triathlon and now that I am more advanced and really do not need ask questions about buckets and whether I should get a road bike or a tri bike; that I should move on to another site that is for "big boys and girls".

Like I said it was just a thought how It could help make "my  BT" better and then not have a need to have to go to velonews, ST, or any other site. Plus it would help foster interest with the true "beginners" of this site about our sport in general...
I bet if you did a poll on here a lot of the beginners could not name 10 pro men triathletes....

It is something to think about...

I'm pretty sure I can't name 10 pro men triathletes.  Maybe 10 pros male and female.

I guess I can understand your point.  I know that Ron and Mike are doing a lot of things to make the site better and have a pretty big development list.  I'd like to see them finish some of those things before focusing on something like this.  Then again, that's me trying to make "my BT" better.

I totally understand.  Sorry if I came off as being harsh yesterday.

I know one of the things I am excited about is an iPhone application, although I hear that's a little ways off yet.
