My local area has a super sprint series on Thursday evenings during the summer months. The distances are 200m/10k/2k. It only takes 25-30mins but can be pretty hard when you're pushing all the way.

I really enjoy these, and they are quite social, so I intend to do as many of them as I can. In terms of training for sprints and olys, would doing these super sprints have any real benefit?

Racing isn't training, really. But at the same time, sprints and Oly-distance races are speed-oriented, so yeah. Going faster than sprint/Oly pace in those races can only help, assuming you're putting in the training for the longer races.

yes, although you should still focus doing key sessions you can use some of this as your hard intensity training days race specific.

Here's your real answer ^^^^.

But yes, done at an appropriate time in a build to a longer race they can be very beneficial.  Not only in terms of getting in some speedwork but also to work on really fast transitions and being really efficient.  These types of races are decided by just a few seconds often for even the age group categories.

-You'll get weekly practice at race transitions

-Balls to the wall for 30 mins, lets you really understand racing in the red

-They're a blast!

You probably won't be seeing a ton of fitness for this single event, but if you train right through the race and keep stacking training sessions together you'll see nice games.

More important, if you think the weekly race/social event is fun - keep going!

If you enjoy them, keep doing them, they sound like a lot of fun and I reckon that's benefit enough.

Exactly! I figure the more fun you get out of triathlons, the more likely you are to keep doing them in the long run.

I think mentally they can be a huge help.  For those of us with not much experience it's a great opportunity to practice transitions in a true race setting but at least for me it's a reminder that "hey I can do this!"  I'm doing a short sprint before my half this summer just to feel good about myself heading into the big race.
