RS is totally the wrong sponsor Lance wants to have. RS is an outdated brick and motor store that is a dieing breed. Who in the their right mind would shop at these stores (over prices and under staffed with smart people). How is Lance going to speak to his sponsor's audience (they are over 55 white males).

From a marketing point of view - bad move! Does it say how long the sponsor will last?

I can't comprehend how RS would have the ca$h to sponsor Lance.  Then again I wasn't happy when the post office was sponsoring him either - they were crying poor and increasing the price of stamps and yet had millions to sponsor a race team.

The father of one of my good friends works at the corporate headquarters in Ft. Worth and says RS will be in business for a long, long time. I personally know a lot of A/V guys who have to shop at RadioShack because nobody else readily carries certain parts that they use in their industry. Don't ask me to name any of the parts. Just sayin', RadioShack has a specific target market, and they apparently do very well within that market. 

The dumb little remote-control cars and ipod accessories are just to get people who happen to wander by their storefront in the door.

Don't forget there's lots of tech in cycling that they can feature in various crossover marketing efforts.  Remember how vigorously Bruyneel and Armstrong criticized the radio ban?  I can see TV ads showing the team telemetry, radios, and stuff like HRMs, GPS and cycling computers.

To digress, who would want to be on Lance's team anyway?   He's had the reputation of being arrogant, but that he would begrudge Contador the win when he's been yakking about what a great domestique and team player he'll be really annoyed me.  I didn't hear about Contador trash talking Lance.

I shop at RadioShack, but it may be conditioning. I am 48 and grew up with the habit of going to RS for all electronic/phone/computer (can you say Tandy?) needs. I still go there for watch batteries and land line phone stuff.

Lance's team will be head and shoulders above AC's team next year, for the simple fact that he has made tons of friends in the cycling world.  For someone like AC, best in the world or not, to not at least pose a good front just to have him as an ally is not a smart move, imo.  LA might be a dbag to some of you, but you can't argue that he's got the respect of a lot of his comrades, and making enemies with him is probably not the smartest move... you don't have to bow down to him to at least be on civil terms.  Next year ought to be a good one.

Posted this in the TdF forum.  Have you seen what most of the other bike team sponsors do?  Other than Garmin and Columbia I doubt many could name what the other teams sponsors do.  Americans at least know who Radio Shack is.
