Okay we are about one month out and this will be my first full Oly. Does anyone know what water temp we should expect for Sep 13th? I will have to rent a wetsuit if needed.

From Setup:
The water temperature is expected to be in the upper 70's. A preliminary water temperature will be posted on the website on the Thursday prior to the event.

Last year the swim was cancelled due to a tropical storm coming through that weekend.

I don't plan on using a wetsuit...so let's hope it doesn't drop below the "optional" window...yikes

Could be. I've had a forced 2 week break from running and I get to find out this weekend where I'm at with the running.

I am also worried about the run. I had it all planned out at the beginning of the season but now I will not be prepared at all. I am still nursing a sprained ankle from the Tavern tri and this week I pulled my calf muscle on the same leg. Since I haven't run the 10K distance since March I am getting really concerned. I just started swimming again this week (since I can't bike or run). Hopefully the calf will heal by next Sunday for the sprint I am doing near my home town in PA. That will only leave 3 weeks to prepare for the Oly distance.

Thanks for listening to my crying. Cry

My longest run was 5.9 miles back at the end of May. I've got 4 weeks to work on the oly distance.

Good luck next Sunday!

The run on this course is not fun.  On COlonial Parkway.  Cobblestone with minimal shade.  Pretty view if you can get past the lack of shade.

Just try to enjoy the oly....I have never done that distance and I hurt my knee two weeks ago.  I am going to just swim hard and kick it on the bike, knowing my run will include a good bit of walking....but I am going for the experience of the the longer distances.  Happy healing!

The run will NOT be on the colonial parkway, someone rammed a boat into a bridge that is near the beginning of the run.  The bridge is closed to traffic for the next several months until they decide when to fix the support pylon.  They will reroute the run.

I doubt you will wear a wetsuit, and you wouldn't want to anyway since the run to T1 is like a quarter mile.

I'm doing the half and i'm not going to bother with my wetsuit.

Oh, didn't know the Colonial Parkway was out.  Guess I need to look at setup's site to see what the run might actually be this time.

It is a long T1.

I was in the Appomattox at Chesdin today, water had to be around 82.  Far cry from what I was in a couple weeks ago in NY (70 -75 degrees)

From what I remember the T1 is long, part gravel part grass.  Up a hill then back down the other side to get in for the swim in end.  Might be worth leaving flip flops near the swim exit to  wear...I think this year the  swim entrance and exit may be different though.  Another good reason to look at setup's site.

Where's the timing mat to end the swim?

If the course is the same as befoe the matt is on the "beach" area, almost immediate to the swim exit.  The T1 times are usually long for this race for the long T1 and accounting for the hill.

I checked the website.  It does look like the entrance and exit for the swim are flipped from previous years.  That may make the T1 a little shorter from previous years but not substantially so.

Nothing posted about the new run course though.

Last year, we had a du instead of tri due to the storm canceling the swim.  They had us loop the parking area about 3 time.  That was B-O-R-I-N-G and measures short by most people's garmin's!

I already had a tri turn to a du this season; I'll be REALLY upset and disappointed if it happened again.
