Subject: Bike Question

I am super new to bikes and have a simple question. i have asked a few people and got different answers. i have not been to a LBS yet, so i will ask it here.

When measuring your height for the correct size of bike you need....do you measure your height with your shoes on(that you will ride in) or, with your shoes off?

i am 6'0 with my shoes off and 6'1 with my shoes on...the few sites i have been on looking at bikes puts me at a 54cm with my shoes off and a 58 with my shoes on.

thanks in advance for any advice!

At 6 1 I think 54 would be on the small side. It also depends on torso and leg length. All bikes are not created equal and finding your proper fit can depend on brand. LBSwill get you on a few types and sizes. I could ride 54 or 56 at 5 10 but have heard others using 51 at the same size as me. Gotta try them out to see

x2. Also depends on the manufacturer. I am 6' 1'' and ride a 56 Cervelo. I would have been on a 58 with a Felt or Trek.

doesn't the size also matter if it's a Tri or Road bike ?

my LBS was saying people usually go 1 size smaller on the Tri bike...again depending on manuf.

It depends on YOU mainly. I'm 5'10, ride a 54 scott CR1, but a 56 Felt S32. There are general rules to follow during fitting, but different people will have different needs.

Jason

I found the info on this site to be helpful.
http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO

I am also a 'newb', so those with more experience and knowledge might have more to say on the results given, but the site does offer a good starting point.

hope it is helpful...
