What's YOUR deal with leftovers?

I try to eat as much of them as I can but with my husband gone all week and my kids being so young, some gets thrown away.

I'm single, so leftovers are somewhat of a necessity in order to save costs - if I cook an actual "dish", then I will have it for a few days. I currently have a container of pasta and meat sauce in my fridge, that I made last night and had for dinner, ate for lunch today, and will eat again tomorrow. It will still be fine, and if 2 days later is too much, then I have the world's highest tolerance for tainted food b/c the only times I've ever gotten food poisoning were from freshly prepared items I ate elsewhere.

I just eat leftover steak cold - if it wasn't too overcooked, it's still soft and tasty the next day even if it's cold. But yeah, trying to reheat steak always ruins it - makes it all dry and grey.

I eat leftovers all the time.  Whenever I cook I try to make extra so my husband and I (or at least one of us) can have leftovers for lunch the next day.  Most of my leftovers end up getting eaten, but occasionally I throw something away.  I don't worry about it too much. 

I give my leftovers 2-4 days before they hit the trash can, depending on what's in it.  Seafood gets 2 days max, something without meat might get 4.  This seems to be fine for me, I've gotten food poisoning twice in my life and neither time was from leftovers.

Food we prepare for other people, we pay attention to expiration dates/cleanliness etc. because we know a lot of people are fussy about these things. 

Food intended for internal consumption, including leftovers, is treated much more roughly.  I've eaten week-old leftovers no problemo and we routinely buy "expired" bread, milk, and meat.  (We do use up the expired meat/milk pretty quickly though. )  I'll save sour milk and use it in baking projects instead of buttermilk (THANKS MOM!! ) rather than throw it out.
