So I was just at Starbucks and saw a poster for a 10km run in Oakville on April 25th - Looks interesting. Anyone ever do this run before?  They say that there are $5k in drawprizes and a Mercedes (1 yr. lease) to be won...

I did it and am registered for this year.  Last year was the first year of the race.  The 10k is pretty flat - it's a big rectangle.  Had a great PB and hope to do so again this year.  The medals and shirts were really nice.  The weather was terrible though and people huddled inside the school until they raffled off the prizes.  The prizes were AMAZING: a one year lease to a mercedes, a couple of big Weber outdoor grills, and a $1000 gift card to Bark and Fitz.

I'm in because I'd probably end up jogging to the start as my warm up.  I haven't raced it before but I heard the loot bag was pretty stellar.

After visiting their site, I think I'll do this event.  Looks interesting, and the prizes look pretty good also.

Ray - thanks for posting the 10k course map on the BT Routes. Now I think I'll run the course since I live  near by.
Cheers

No problem Mark.  I like playing with that map tool during my lunch break.  I get to see the route elevations and can plan my pace strategy with it. Laughing

I officially signed up today.

Already over 800 signed up, and cap is 1500.  Still a month to go.

WTH?? Warm and sunny for three weeks before the race. Warm and sunny next week, but the day of the race the weather WAS MISERABLE!Cry At least there was no danger of getting heatstroke or sunburn.  Did anyone else run this?

Yeah I did and beat my goal of 55mins.  Finished 54:02 chip time, 54:40  gun.  It was miserable for sure especially waiting for the start of the race.  But once I got running, I never really noticed.

Definitely one of the more miserable days - warmed up plenty once the race started but good thing they had the arena for the raffle.  Only beat my time last year by 3 seconds ... 50:05 i think was my chip time ... not too shabby considering the wind.  Decent course for a PB but not so much for a negative split with the slight downhill on the way out and the slight uphill (and into the wind yesterday) on the way back.

Miserable day but great run.  Set a 10K PB of 50:37 and had a great time even though it was cold, wet and windy.

I ran a 50:21. I guess JuniperJen, Rodney and I all must have been running within 50 meters of each other.

So you are the guy I was trying to pass at the finish   Great run, next time we'll have to co-ordinate a finishing party near the food stand with all the BTer's

LOL - So you're the guy I barely held off in the last 50m.Tongue out

I agree - next race we should have a post race 'meet and greet' so we can put a face to the people we share our Tri commens with. Maybe at Victoria's Duathlon?

Too funny!! All three of you right in a row!

I must've seeded myself a bit ahead (just in front of the 50 minute corral).

So you must have both seen/heard the dog man?  Older guy in a light brown leisure suit running and barking everytime he saw a dog?

I was near a man in a tan velour track suit running with an umbrella tucked under his arm ... it was really strange ... I didn't hear him bark though - that would have made it really interesting!! But I only came upon him in the second half of the race!
