1) How important is it to rinse off?
2) At Eagleman, do they have the hoses like at Kona?

Thanks!

I've raced several times in salt water and only one race had a hose to rinse off - honestly I didn't notice a difference between these races and fresh water in terms of chaffing on the bike/run.

No info in Eagleman but I have done Salt Water tri's and didn't notice any difference.  One ones I did did not have a shower/rinse area.

glad you asked this....
my first saltwater T1 is coming up and i thought about this too.  i planned on bringing an extra water bottle in my t-bag (yeah, i said t-bag).  was thinking of just squirting my chaffing areas down before i got on the bike.  not sure it will help, but figured i won't hurt.

If you don't rinse off, you can just lick yourself to get your electrolytes

I have done numerous ocean tri's and no rinse off. Never noticed a difference between those and fresh water lakes. Good luck.

I will add that I DID notice a BIG difference in buoyancy.  Salt water swimming is much easier than fresh water swimming.

In Kona, maybe.  But the Choptank River in Eastern Maryland?  Not so much!

Plus, I figure that my e-lyte quota will be met by the accidental gulps of water that I am bound to ingest DURING the swim.

Are you doing the Chesapeakeman? I am debating between that one and the Redman in Oklahoma City on the same day.

Hello

I did St Simons, GA with an ocean OWS.  No rinse-no problem.

Only real issue was getting the sand off your feet at T-1.  I had my brother racked on my right and some other guy racked on my left.  When I got to T-1 both of them were already out on the bike.  The guy to my left had his towel laying right on my stuff so I used his towel to clean my feet.

Done tons of ocean races. Never rinsed and never noticed. I wouldn't give it another thought if I were you.

antlimon - I read that a rinse off area is going to be available before T1 at LoneStar!

To reply to the orignial question for the OP.  The swim for Eagleman is in the Choptank river that isn't really all that Salty.

For the hosing question they do not have any hoses.

This is my cousin coming out of the water last year.  I believe it gives a great view of the water exit and shows no hoses.

Done a couple of ocean tris and one (Dewey Beach) had people standing at the entrance to T1 to hose you down if you wanted. Most people around me just opted to get the sand hosed off their feet.

i have done alot of ocean tri's and only 1 fresh water, no difference, and i never rinse.  at first its a little different but you get used to it.  usually if they have water comming out of the water i will take 1-2 cups and dump it on my face and have a quick sip to wash out the taste.  that is about it.

I've never noticed a difference fresh vs. salt water. I do, however, rinse my bike with fresh water as soon as I get home and clean it really well. Saltwater is VERY bad for things that can rust/corrode.
