Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I bought used but went with a Mavic Open Pro---obvious a popular choice along with the DT swiss. I use mine for both training AND racing---with a wheelbuilder cover (they make covers for both DT and Mavic if I remember correctly from my research/buying). I would have flipped a coin if I bought new---between the DT and Mavic.... |

![]() If it's just for training...I can't see how you can go wrong with the DT Swiss or Mavic Open Pro. It may be more of an issue of how each wheel matches up to your current front wheel...unless you also plan to buy a matching front. There are tons of used Mavic's on ebay. Wheelbuilder offers a powertap package with the DT swiss. |

![]() newbz - 2010-05-05 4:17 PM get the DT swiss and a cover if you are not going with a race wehel. Just make sure the races you plan to do allow discs. I was sold on the DT swiss/PT/cover package...until I found out one of my target races each year does not allow discs. I wonder if they'll one day make a 1080 type cover...that would be cool. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() quarq? Then you can use any race wheels you want. I've had PT for 4 years..actually 3 of them...and getting new bike and opting for quarq unless I get talked out of it in next day or two. My training PT wheel has always been Mavic Open Pro..that thing is bomb proof but heavy. I'd consider something else. Call Wheelbuilder and get some input as some rims are similar in price but lighter. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went with Williams Cycling System 30 with Powertap Pro+ wireless. Front and rear was $1399. Solid set and front has ceramic bearings. May be able to get wireless rear only for a little less but I liked the idea of matched set. Had the wheels for 6+ months and very pleased. Excellent customer service. They also offer a set of carbon 58's with Powertap Pro+ for $1799. Good option if you are looking for training/race combo. |

![]() Correct. Kona and the Hawaii 70.3 don't allow discs. |

I'd prefer a FSA team issue standard 53/39 crank please...=) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wheelbuilder recommended the Kinlin wheel instead of the DT for my package. 32 spoke, 30mm depth. Weight is trivial and the cover is only 100 bucks extra. I got the wheel, pro+, cover and a 310XT for I believe 1500 all in? |

You know...I had the same thought when I was into golf and got one of them sky caddie GPS devices. I was all excited because it had a feature that allowed you to plot the spot where you hit your tee shot from, then when you go to where you ball landed, it told you how far you hit it. Me and my friends were all expecting to see numbers like 290-320 when we "smashed" our drives. Come to find out...it was really only in the 250-270 range. TOTAL LETDOWN!!! =) Edited by tri808 2010-05-06 2:07 PM |

TOTAL LETDOWN!!! =) I thought people just bought the SkyCaddie because Natalie Gulbis is HOT! For using power on a budget would it be a bad idea to get a PT on an Open Pro from TriSports.com and use the BT 15% discount? I want to invest in a PT in the future but it is so difficult to part with the big bucks after I just purchased a new ride. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had mine laced to a Mavic based on the advice of Rich at wheelbuilder. Worked great for 5 seasons. Pretty bomb proof for training and fast enough for racing once I added the cover. Like Kathy, I switched to the Quarq when I got the new bike. For a variety of reasons, it was pretty cheap for me to switch at that point. |

Yeah...part of the letdown was that Natalie Gulbis did not come with the Sky Caddie...=) As far as the offer you were mentioning...I don't believe that deal comes with the computer. So unless you already have a 310xt, that's something to consider...otherwise it's a pretty good deal with the discount. If you don't have a computer, then the PT packages from wheelbuilder.com are pretty good. You can get the elite+ package (with computer and HRM) with the DT Swiss for $1100. Throw in a disc cover and you're good to go. I speced out how much it would cost to ship the PT package and wheel cover, and it was only about $45 to Hawaii...possibly cheaper to where you are. Ebay also has some good deals on packages. But I read something that said Saris has a minimum selling price for their PTs. If you buy it for too cheap...it voids the warranty as the seller is not following the manufacturer minimum price. Not sure of all the details, or if a BT discount at trisports.com would fall into that category. |

![]() Not sure how PTs depreciate. I think the warranty is only good for the original owner if that matters to you. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is true. I didn't initially see that TriSports didn't provide the whole package. I am trying to compare the Elite+ with the Pro+ and trying to see if it is worth the extra $$ for a Pro. Pro+: includes HR strap lighter Elite+: no HR strap heavier The PTs say that they display speed/cadence but do they come with the necessary sensors? I notice that wheelbuilder sells the wired speed/cadence sensor. Is this because it is not included in the basic PT package? |
