Other than winding up like those weirdos in TAN ...

No, really, what truly frightens/horrifies/disgusts you? What's your bete noir? What makes you wake up in a cold sweat?

For me, it is geckoes. I shudder to even think.

Of course, I moved to a country where they're EVERYWHERE. They make me scream. If one is on the ceiling, I cannot sleep for fear it will fall on me.

recently I've started waking up in cold massive sweats during dreams where absolutely nothing scary is happening.  it will be your normal everyday dream and I wake up drenched like I just ran 10 miles in 100 degree heat.  So I have translated this to being scared of mediocrity.  Who knows if I'm right, but it makes me feel better.

Severe weather...tornados, lightening, etc.

I think I'm scarred for life from watching The Wizard of Oz at such a young age.

I have recurring nightmares about these three things, all of which I'm afraid of:

- Plane crashes. Which is ironic becase I work for an airplane manufacturer and my Dad is a pilot.

- Tornados. Which is ironic because I live in Kansas and see them on TV every day this time of year.

- My Mother having a low-insulin Diabetic episode and it being too late to help her. I know this stems from watching her go "low" many, many times in my childhood (one while she was driving me and my sister, so scary) or trying to force feed her while we waited for an ambulance in the middle of the night. So scary. It's engrained in my mind and it still terrifies me to this day that someday, I might be in a position where I'm completely helpless.

Snakes.  It's the only thing I'm afraid of.  Clowns freak me out a bit and I don't like that Chucky doll, but snakes scare the crap out of me.
My youngest daughter (15) is afraid of Penguins.  Seriously, penguins - and not the ones from Pittsburgh, either.  She'd rather watch Saw than Happy Feet.

Cows.  Big and stupid enough to squish me by accident.  I work in the field as much as I can (used to be a lot more frequent).  Every time you drive up to a gate in a pasture, here come the cows running full speed conditioned for a meal.  I have to walk through avoiding the bull to get were I am going if the gate is locked or the father asked us not to open in.  Cows of all things are my only real fear.

Unreasonable = small spaces. Had no idea how bad it was until I went through 1.5 miles of the Oregon Caves. HR was probably at 180+ the entire way. Horrible.

Semi-reasonable = OWS in murky water. I got pulmonary edema in my last tri and haven't done a lake OWS since. (I'm working on this. I watch people and don't get very freaked out now, so it's getting better.) Fortunately, snorkelling and swimming in Hawaii however, were completely different. Doing that I had a blast!.

Our 18 month old is scared (*&^-less of our parrot.  Seriously.  I think he pooped himself 2 days ago when he saw it.  It was in it's cage (where it rarely is) and he looked at it and "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"  ran to the kitchen.  about 3 seconds later I knew I had a diaper to change.  (not me, my son's)

my middle son is scared of tigger.  And our daughter is scared of her own hamster.
