OK, let's hear what everybody has planned for this Long Party Weekend!

I've got two stepsons and one son (19,20,21) and their girlfriends who for some crazy reason want to hang out with my husband and me camping and canoeing the river on Saturday and Sunday. Should be much raucous hilarity.

Then on Monday I have my annual 4th of July 8K race - always VERY hot, but very fun - with the added benefit of an extra large cheering section this year.  After, we'll all hang around the Freedom Fest eating crappy mostly-on-a-stick food, people watching and ......fireworks! A good time will be had by all.

And you??

I've got to work for the next seven days. At least it's suppossed to rain here in Seattle(big surprise) on the 4th. At least that might keep the morons out of the ER who don't know the meaning of.."light fuse and get away". Hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend!!! Chris

Going home with my sis and pups to hang out with the 'rents. Should be fun... unless it's not. That's kinda how it is with my family. Fun or nuclear warfare. Maybe the dogs will keep things cool.

pippen - 2005-06-30 5:19 PM Backpacking and flyfishing!

Man, I'd gladly give up the P'tree for a weekend of backpacking and flyfishing!

Are you going to stay in CO?  I've never fished out there, but I've heard that their Blue Ribbon Streams can be fantastic!  What weight rod do you normally take?  Though in GA we've got over 1200 miles of trout streams, they're normally completely grown over with rhododendrons and casting is out of the question.  It takes a 9' 3 or 4 wt to just dapple the fly in some pools rather than backcast and shoot upstream.

I did get to go fishing today but it was with electricity, insulated waders, and for research purposes only, but we did get to keep a couple.

Man, I need to go flyfishin' soon.  It's been too long.  Will you give me full report when you get back, with pictures of some your catch so I can drool over the good time you'll be having?

I WANNA GO!

SR

Will do SR! Hopefully I'll catch something to write about

Yeah, staying in CO, going up towards the Flattop Wilderness area out west - the Mandall Lakes area. We're packing in about 6 miles on Saturday, spending Sunday in the area, then heading out Monday. I'm looking forward to it, there's supposedly some really nice Rainbows up there!

I've got a 4/5 wt Redington Rod, I think its 8'6".... This is only my second season flyfishing, so I catch as many trees and rocks as I do fish. Well, actually more trees than fish! I've even caught myself a time or two!!!

Have a good weekend!

Traveling to Dallas to see my folks and sister, and to run in the TriAmerica Sprint on Sunday...beer and bratwurst after.  Monday will be a local 4th of July fest, with crappy food, and then fireworks with the kiddos.

My 11 year old son is playing in the District Little League All-star Tournament, Saturday and Sunday.  Then Monday night I get to work (on OverTime, yippee) at the public fireworks display.

Nothing exciting...although I'm not on call which is pretty exciting for me in and of itself   Meeting a fellow BTer for drinks tommorrow....rest is up in the air.  I'm trying to get a friend to do a tri as a relay with me and I will swim and bike and she will run....she is still on the fence.  If my hip doesn't hurt too much I may play golf

Big training weekend, with Lake Placid IM coming up in 3 weeks. Plans are for a 1.5 mile morning swim, 50 mile afternoon bike on Friday. 2 mile swim, 10 mile run on Saturday. 100 mile bike on Sunday. 15 mile run on Monday afternoon, possibly another 1.5 mile swim in the morning.

Somewhere in there I gotta mow the "lawn" (weeds really).

Starting off with Friday afternoon at Summerfest, the world's largest music festival. It's Milwaukee's current claim to fame. Big name acts on 10 stages. I will be eating Saz's ribs tomorrow afternoon.

Big training weekend also...bike and run mostly. Swim on Monday after the kiddie parade. I need to find time for the lawn during the course of the three days.

Finally, what July 4th weekend would be complete without grilling the most lusciously edible parts of a cow?

Tonight, strength training the elbow/forearm at Rattlefish Bar & Grill with fellow BTer, Sue. If anyone asks what I do for a living, I am a toll booth operator (I love that answer).

Tomorrow, swim and run. Grillout with friends.

Sunday, long bike ride, naps and watch The Sting at our historical, 80 year old movie theatre.

Monday, pause to meditate and give thanks for living in the land of the relatively free and home of the brave.

Because we wouldn't be celebrating the 4th of July as a United States of America if not for this man's leadership, I am posting one of my favorite poems, an homage/eulogy to Abraham Lincoln by Walt Whitman. O Captain, My Captain.

O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
    But O heart! heart! heart!
      O the bleeding drops of red,
        Where on the deck my Captain lies,
          Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;

Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
    Here Captain! dear father!
      This arm beneath your head;
        It is some dream that on the deck,
          You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;

My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
    Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
      But I, with mournful tread,
        Walk the deck my Captain lies,
          Fallen cold and dead.

Y'know what, Renee. After recieving the last issue of Time magazine all about Honest Abe, I determined that my boyfriend is the spitting image of the guy (only younger and infinitely handsome). Weird, huh?
