Elite 2608    Denver, Colorado |  Subject: People with no talent, people who can't dance...I must admit that my guilty pleasure over the summer is watching America's Got Talent. I also watch So You Think You Can Dance because my wife and daughter enjoy it. Half the fun is watching the people who have no talent or can't dance (in fact, for the Dance show, I actually stop watching once the auditions are over and the crazies are gone). I realize that some of these "losers" are just smart-azzes trying to get some fame, but some of these people are actually disappointed when they're told that they can't dance or have no talent. And I'm not talking about the borderline folks who have a shot if they just practiced more. I'm talking about the flat out losers who have no hope. What goes through these people's minds? I mean, they're not children. Are they delusional? Do they have an inflated self-image? Have they just lived a sheltered life? Help me understand why these people would waste other people's time and think that they even have a chance. |

And it pizzes me off that they are soooo clueless, yet they are allowed to vote AND their vote counts as much as my vote! Sheesh! I honestly think there are a lot of people out there with various forms of dysmorphia, but a narcissistic dymorphia, where they see themselves as being much better than they really are (dysmorphia is usually seeing flaws that aren't there.) You just made their point, you start watching the show due to the displays of embaressment. May not be as random as you think. There are tryouts before the tryouts and they make sure to have the right balance of those who will move on and those who will make an idiot of themselves. |

If someone is doing something the enjoy, who am I to question it as long as it does not harm others (For instance on AGT, an arsonist should not be able to burn down a building simply to show their skill and choosing/creating accelerants  ) |

In most cases I suspect to find extremely biased parents telling their kids how good they are and that they should audition. Just look at American Idol. How many times do they show the crazies leaving the audition room to find their parents outside telling them its ok and the judges have no idea what theyre talking about. Really parents, you're not doing your kid a favor by letting them get embarrassed on national TV. That being said, if you enjoy dancing, dance. Who cares what others think? Just realize that just because you enjoy dancing doesnt mean you should go on SYTYCD. |

One morning he came into work and excitedly told us that said son was going to be a contestant on "60 Seconds To Fame," that Fox show from a few years back. I was a bit askeered because I had watched a few episodes prior and prop comics do notoriously bad on the show. Especially those who, on their websites, use words like ZANY!! CRAZY!! WACKY!! to describe themselves, which this guy had. So the show came on, and out trotted this guy. He proceeded to remove his shirt and affix toilet plungers to his chest, forehead, and back, whilst doing some sort of ZANY!! CRAZY!! WACKY!! dance. That was it. That was his act. He lasted all of about 20 seconds. The next morning, I snuck into work at 6 AM, and affixed a single toliet plunger to my boss' desk. I went home and came back in at my normal time. If someone likes to dance they can dance all they want in their homes, at a club, wherever. Heck, every year my daughter and I go to the father-daughter ball and have the best time dancing. But I'd never think that my dancing would win any sort of dance competition unless the competition involved dancing that most closely resembled a seizure disorder. I guess my issue involves broader societal implications. What happens when someone with this type of mentality does get into a situation where they can cause some harm? "But I enjoy my job and I was trying my best! It's not my fault that the patient died/my client lost a big case/$1 million is unaccounted for." |
