80's party- what to wear?

Extreme Veteran  1996     Halifax, Nova Scotia |  Subject: 80's party- what to wear?Help please! I'm going to an eighties party this weekend and need some suggestions on what to wear. My distant memories of that time, clouded by froze strawberry margaritas, are of huge shouldered double breasted power suits, Simon LeBon hair and pleats. And a Flock of Seagulls flying overhead. What do I do? My pics will show you the big hair is out, and the power suits are long gone. All I can think of are chinos, a tight polo shirt, and deck shoes. Anything more original? |

Fold-up sunglasses were all the rage where I grew up for a while. Rubik's cube. Take one with you and know how to solve it. Swatches. Ideally the bottom polo should be a pastel blue color (patel yellow also acceptable) and of course with your black jeans the only options for the top polo is pink. Also, don't forget the herring bone gold chain. Complete the look with sunglasses. Remember all of us 80 guys wore our sunglasses at night. And the only possible option is....Wayfarers. on the feet, the only acceptable footwear would be sperry topsiders. (If you were in a pinch you could substitute white ASCICS wrestling shoes or high top Adidas) If you do go with high tops the tongue has to be out, colored shoe laces, and the bottom of the pants has to be tucked into the high tops. Also a nylon velcro walet.

Expert 1099 Orlando, FL | Subject: RE: 80's party- what to wear? I was of the punk rock persuasion in the 80s. My guys all wore ripped up half t-shirts, maybe a few safety pins in them. Black jeans or really too short shorts, too. (cutoffs with tube socks sometimes) Spikey hair, or shaved parts of it, maybe some touches of weird colors. Arm junk, especially chains (bicycle, sink stopper, safety pins together) and those black rubber o-ring bracelets. Dog collars and spiked wrist bands, jean jackets with metal stuff stuck all in it. Basically take some black clothes, rip them up, stick metal things in them. |

Sports shoes with knee socks (got any compression gear?) Add some clip on earrings, black eyeliner, spike whatever hair you got (neon hairspray?) ... Just trying to work with what you might already have. |
