As I walked down the stairs, I thought "$hit, I have to run 26.2 miles 8 days from now". Is anyone else going to run? Do any of you watch? I have my bib number, but too lazy to walk back down those stairs to find it. I will post it if anyone is going to watch. On a positive note, I have lost 33lbs since beginning to train 29 weeks ago. |

Here's hopin' for nice weather - the 10-day forecast looks perfect ![]() I'm going to start off with a fast pace group and see how long I last - I'll be trying out a high-cadence, short-step stride, but I haven't had a chance to do a long run yet with that stride. I've just been playing around with it since IMWI, and am curious to see how long I can keep it up for. Wishing everyone doing the full or 10-Miler a great race! Cheers, Chris |

(I'll be cheering with my brothers-in-laws as farm animals.) So swing to the right side of the road near the Cathedral and grab a quick high-5!!! And before that, I'll be shooting for my biggest "A" goal of the year at the TC 10 Mile - looking for sub-60 if the planets align for me... Good luck runners!!! I look forward to training for a marathon in 2011, I need to get my attitude and body back in positive shape. HAVE FUN! |

My last 16 mile run was 10:35/mile, but I am going to force myself to start the first 4-5 miles at around a 11/mile to make sure I don't start out too fast and kill my chances. I can't wait to finish and have that under my belt! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!! Look for my leg tattoo and a 6'6 guy! That will be me. Steve! I will for sure give you guys a high 5! I will be at such a "high" at that point! During my training run, I ran multiple sections of the course. During a 16 mile, I remember passing the cathedral and loving the feeling. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ryan - That's a very good plan to start off SLOW for your first marathon. Start REALLY SLOW - do not get caught up in the adrenaline rush & excitement mania of the start... You'll see children, elderly people, 3-legged dogs, and all sorts of other folks whiz past you in the first few miles - let 'em go. The #1 mistake of first-time marathoners is going wayyy too fast at the start. The adrenanline will wear off, and then you'll be hating it. After those first 5-6 miles (or so), then start cranking it up. You'll zoom right by all of those folks who passed you earlier - they'll be gassed & you'll be all smiles. If you do it right, you'll hit the halfway point feeling great, and you'll be able to negative split the second half ![]() Have fun - see you out there! Cheers, Chris |

I think I will see you if I am paying attention, Ryan Steve - I hope to arrive early enough to see your blur going by at the 10 miler... I am hoping to remember my Iron girl cow bells from a few years ago. Chris -I thought of you and your short stride today. I can't wait to hear if that works for you. I got my butt whooped by a gal on the trail today with a very unassuming short but FAST stride and was impressed. Bryan (and Kelly) - Bob and I will be at the same place you found us last time, so look out. Everyone - good luck! Looks like the best weather in many years. I am really excited for y'all. |

I think this high-cadence, short-step stuff is going to be a winner for me in the future, but since I've just recently started getting serious about doing it, I have no idea how it'll pan out at the TCM - at least it'll be a good experiment to bring into winter training ![]() It does feel strange though - similar to speed-walking. Though I "feel" slower when I'm doing it, I am definitely much faster. I'll just be curious to see what it does to my lungs & legs in those later miles. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() i'm in for the full... had big expectations for this race... but a broken foot and little training over the past 10 weeks have changed the plans a bit... was planning on going for a sub-3 (3:01 at boston this year)... will probably go out with the 3:20 or 3:25 group and hope i can hang on... also scheduled for the nyc marathon five weeks later... so i'd like to get through this as pain free as possible... |
