Lake Placid, New York
United States
GTC
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 15h 18m 38s
Overall Rank = 1616/1997
Age Group = w30-34
Age Group Rank = 83/116
Pre-race routine:

Ate pasta with marinara, and a plain chicken breast, lots of water and endurolytes....sex, and more water, a massage. Slept well from 8 pm to 2 am. Had to get up at 4 am to get breakfast and parking
Event warmup:

none...warm up for an Ironman? are you kidding? I swam to the far right side of the start...that was my warm up. Also slammed a red bull!
Swim
  • 1h 22m 26s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easy does it is the key to this swim. I stayed to the right about 25 yards off the "line" and had no trouble with the swim and getting kicked. So what if I swam an extra .1 or .2 in distance...it was well worth the relaxed pace and easy time with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a bit faster and try to draft. I kept trying to draft but it just wasn't working well for me. I swam by myself pretty much the whole way.
Transition 1
  • 11m 37s
Comments:

I changed into cycling clothes and forgot to put a towel in my bag. So I got my sports bra stuck and had to have a helper pull it down, but the tent was so crowded, I had to wait for help.
What would you do differently?:

Add towel to T1 bag.
Bike
  • 8h 07m 49s
  • 112 miles
  • 13.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Tough course. 2nd lap mile 80-101 was darkest moment. Found that special something at mile 101 and rode in to town with a big smile! Thank god for granny gears!
What would you do differently?:

better prepared for bike course. More long distance training.
Transition 2
  • 06m 18s
Comments:

well, this is a full serve transition. I saw my friend in the changing tent and she took good care of me. This transition was a bit long because we were chatting a bit.
What would you do differently?:

faster.
Run
  • 5h 30m 31s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Fans were great and desperately needed. I really enjoyed myself on the run. I ran well until mile 14 when my IT bands went bye bye on me. I was walking the aid stations and hills at that point. I walked miles 19-21. When the sun went down it got pretty cold, very quickly so I started running again and ran into the stadium with the huge crowd. I was so excited, this really was an amazing experience.
What would you do differently?:

run more and faster. Drink another red bull at 13.1.
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

well, this was my first Ironman and I'd say lack of experience limited my ability. But I really didn't feel limited. I had a great day and an amazing time. I'll be back for another!

CONGRATS IRONWOMAN!

It was an amazing race - I will 2nd and 3rd your comment about the bike course being tough!

Good idea on the swim - I got the crap beat outta me for almost the entire 1st loop.

Great job!!!!!

Way to go Jeanne! Another BT-er I wish I had met up with! Great race, you were right behind me at the end. That sure is a tough bike course, it really knocks the stuffing out of your legs for the run. I too thought all the volunteers, and especially those at the aid stations, were what got us through the day. Without them, I'd have never made it.

Congratulations...you are an IRONMAN! (I refuse to be politically correct here!)
