Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know, 36 hours to go, but as a non-paying memeber here, and for anyone else who doesn't pay for one of the BT programs, I'm about to loose my 2009 data in my training logs once Staurday morning arrives. 2010 totals Bike: 308h 40m 30s - 6567.37 Mi Run: 205h 45m 03s - 1701.94 Mi Swim: 154h 57m 18s - 525811 Yd 2009 totals Bike: 292h 06m 24s - 6280.35 Mi Run: 184h 47m 11s - 1559.57 Mi Swim: 115h 22m - 410271 Yd I was able to put in an extra 287 miles of biking, 142 miles of running, and a whopping 115,540 yards of swimming. Total training time was about 670 hours, so averaging 13+ hours per week in 2010 vs. 592 hours in 2009, averaging 12 hours per week. With the exception of Hawaii, it was my best year of racing form a result standpoint, although I think I went a bit beyond what my personal training limit in building for Kona and got hurt and was a little too broken down to perfrom well. I don't think I will reach for that kind of volume in the future, I don't feel that I respond as well to it. For fun, I calculated what my pace was for all my running and biking. I ran 1701.94 miles averaging a 7:15 pace and rode 6567.37 miles averaging 21.27 mph. Can't do the swimming as times include rest and are usually approximated for total time. Here's the calculator I used if anyone wants to give it a spin: http://users.penn.com/~bczappa/PaceCalculator.htm So 2010 is almost in the books, my 5th year in the sport done and dusted, bring on 2011! Happy New Year everyone. ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() With our daughter arriving last Boxing Day, this year has definitely not been a typical training year:
Goal is to get back business starting January 1st and at least get my bike and run fitness back in line. Maybe race HIM distance this year so that my lack of swim fitness is less of an issue. Shane |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2010 totals began in mid July, and I've been very run/swim focused, since I could do neither at all when I started this journey:

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2010 I trained more hours than I have in past years even with getting Lyme's Disease and having my knee scoped in June, missing a good 8 weeks of running and less of biking and swimming. My swim hours and yards is much higher than past years up 35 hours which is about 38%, bike is up from 2009 but less than 2008. Run is less than last year due to injury issues. Doing a late season IM and not taking complete break from tri training after IM pushed the numbers up for me. 2010 hours so far 528 and will swim and run before year's end 2009 481 hours 2008 480 hours As fun as it is to see what others have done and do a little comparison, it can be a bit dangerous. Chasing training hours is not the most effective way to improve and can cause injury for some. Next year I hope to stay injury free so I can train consistently. Not sure where the hours will end up but having 2 IMs on the calendar will probably push up overall hours mostly bike and run.

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Right, that's why I made this thread an individuals comparison of this year to last as opposed to just this year, Kath. ![]() |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2009 was effectively my first year of training, apart from running which I began in 2008. So, unsurprisingly, my volume increased. Bike mileage is meaningless as I don't record miles on the trainer. I need to work on my swim volume!

Center of your blog, under the weather data if you were performance member it shows up as black line with week, month, year in white letters on my blog. Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Averaged 7.94 hrs/week training in 2010 vice 8.13 hrs/week in 2009. 2010: Swim: 121h 2m 51s 440658 yards Bike: 157h 35m 19s 3664.34 miles Run 135h 19m 05s 1102.78 miles 2009: Swim: 74h 41m 44s 274139 yards Bike: 179h 29s 3594.82 miles Run: 169h 09m 17s 1351.08 miles As you can see, I really focused on my swim in 2010. I swam 166,519 yards (94.6 miles) more this year. Still averaged ~ the same yd/hr at 3642 in 2010 and 3667 in 2009 which includes rest. I feel it helped my overall racing because I had no HR increase coming out of the water and hit the gas from the first pedal stroke. Biked about the same distance as last year but in less time. Averaged 23.25 mph in 2010 vice 20.1 mph in 2009. So the intensity went up. Run was less (which surprised me). 7:22 min/mile average in 2010 vice 7:31 min/mile in 2009. I will be putting in about another 30 miles in this week, but nothing to throw off the numbers too much. Again, showed Jorge and I's focus on intensity vice volume. I had a great overall season with success at the Sprint to HIM level, and a general rise among my peer group. So it's interesting to look back and see the 50,000 foot view. |

2010 wasn't the greatest tri year. I had a stress fracture in my ankle, trapped nerve on my foot, 2 broken toes, 2 broken ribs and minor surgery to remove a melanoma. I'm hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow and make it to 6000 miles for this year |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I started training in the spring of 2009. I"m happy to have done this little comparison, as it's inspirational. In 2010, my swim hours more than doubled but my distance tripled. In 2010, my bike was not significantly higher. In 2010, my run hours increased 3x, but my mileage increased almost 5x All in all, I'd say that's pretty good improvment. Cheer and Happy New Year BT! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Still plan on about 15 more miles running and about 30 more miles on the bike. It will put me over 2000 miles for the year on the bike (which I was proud of until I look at some of the other numbers). 1500 miles runnning was an amazing achievement for me. I can see a day where I will go 100% running but that day is not here yet. I ran over 100 miles every month of 2010 which was one of my prime goals. 2011 is going to be a great year of training........ 2010 totals Bike: 100h 25m 28s - 1994.9 Mi Run: 204h 18m 45s - 1528.71 Mi Swim: 40h 42m 51s - 122362 Yd 2009 totals Bike: 59h 19m 45s - 1197.73 Mi Run: 62h 29m 38s - 485.64 Mi Swim: 32h 41m 12s - 97050 Yd Edited by wannabefaster 2010-12-30 10:10 AM |
