My friend and I were just talking about this last night.  I told her that triathlons seem to be a "dry spot".  Thanks for sharing!

I guess I'm dense Possum, but..."HUH???"

Very cool site.  I have to be honest, I'm not an "every Sunday" churchgoer by any stretch of the imagination, but I hate the way that ALL tris seem to be on Sundays.  What the heck is wrong with Saturday?

I saw their tent but didnt get to talk to them because I was trying to find my wife and get home.

I am excited that our church is starting a Saturday night service with small groups before. This will be great for a lot of people doing Saturday Morning/Sunday Morning long rides, runs, plus it gives people different options who have jobs, etc or just like to sleep in on Sunday mornings.

I know my wife and I are changing to it and are looking forward to the different options it presents to people to be involved with the various small groups in our church. We are even planning on starting a run/cycling group.

It was a really bad joke. Run4yrlife=Jim Christian.
like I said, unfunny.

Catholics get to go to church on Sat night. what a great idea that is! especially since all the races are sunday!

I did the Tri4God Tri this year.. It was in Gluckstadt, MS..

It was on a Saturday

It was a great Tri and the environment and atmosphere was great.

They also had a nice coolmax shirt in the race packet! (no cotton here )

I'll have to say.. I'm an Episcopalian and we can sometimes get a little snobbish (i guess thats the right word) and somtimes pretty private when it comes to our faith. This Tri and the folks that run it did a FABULOUS job of putting their message out there and created this ministry in a way that makes it available to those who want to participate in the ministry but not being too forward or intrusive with those who it might not be for.

From what I understand it has also been growing greatly from year to year and should be a pretty big event in a couple of years if it keeps on the same track. (had about 375 folks this year)

Just thought I'd chime in as a Tri4God local..

Will

Thanks for sharing these two ministries, I hadn't heard of either of them before!

I didn't realize there were so many places that only have Sunday tris - the Tri the Parks series in Georgia is all on Saturdays. The race this weekend that I have, not the same series, is my first on a Sunday - but we have an 11:20 service at our church, so I'm going to try to do both!

I despise people who use religion to promote business, like somehow they're business/event is somehow better because it's put on by professed Christians? Bull honky. The biggest crooks I know are evangelicals. shirt-sleeve Christianity is a mockery. If you must, worship on your own, and not as a way of making money or promoting your agenda. Boycott all business that uses God to promote. Christ threw the money changers out of the temple after all.

Based on the Mission and Purpose on their web site, I would not characterize Tri4God in the way you mentioned. A ministry and a business are very different, especially in their primary motives/objectives. There are plenty of organizations that promote more destructive ideals, and do so in far more instrusive ways.

Definitely no need to duck. God loves you, and so do I!

This event contributes money to my office, The Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children..
Tri4God surely isn't a business it is a Triathlon with a ministry..

I agree with your post...

If you would like to see a shirtsleeve Christianity business..

These folks charge admission for their shows.. and from what I understand.. take up a collection at the shows.

Here is there prayer list..

1. nobody said it was better because it had a Christian face to it
2. never heard of "shirt-sleeve" Christianity
3. no agenda was promoted, just a good race put on by a local ministry
4. Christ threw out the money changers because they had turned a place of worship into a marketplace - hardly the same as a lake, T1/T2, etc. etc.....

Wow. I volunteer with a group called Team in Faith (teaminfaith.org) and this organization is not run as a business. All money raised through our events goes to charity and we do not push our agenda (i.e., faith) on anybody. We are simply out there loving fellow triathletes one person at a time. Our organization, and I am sure these other Christian organizations, is focused on ministry and not worship. Again, we do not use our Christian faith to make money. All the volunteers have real jobs that provide incomes for us. I am truly sorry you feel this is how Christian-based organizations are operated.

I'd be willing to bet that it goes towards running the Tri, running the website.. etc..
I'd also be willing to bet they don't sell that much merchendise..

I'm sure nobody makes money of this..
