USA Today has this pretty intersting article about President Bush's 2 hour mountain bike ride in Crawford, TX this Saturday. The reporter (who rode with Bush and is an accomplished rider) stated that they got up to 20 mph on the asphalt, and his avg. HR was 139. Other presidental stats of interest included in the article are his 47 resting HR, 191.6 lb weight, and 15.79% body fat.

Sounds like he's a pretty decent athlete. I seem to remember reading somewhere that before his knee went out a few years ago, he ran a 3 mile "race" in 20:29! ... I wonder if he can swim!!

There is so much I dislike about the POTUS but I am glad that he is talking about the importance of physical fitness - and following up his talk by his own good example.

Yes, it's great that he loves exercising, but it made me mad that he said no-one is allowed to pass him!! Pfft!!

Love him or hate him, I do appreciate his interest in physical fitness.

However - 20mph on a MTB with knobby tires?  I find that hard to believe.  And no passing?  Now I want a ride with him more than a ride with Lance.  I'd drop him like a lead weight...

No one is allowed to pass him??!! Are you serious?

It certainly fits his modus operandi. This emperor wants no one to know he has no clothes.

I don't know what I find most disturbing, a 59 yr old man that rides a mountain bike with knobby tires at 20 mph (with headwind and 85 degrees temp) or a president that takes reportes on a bike ride while people wait for serious answers camping outside his ranch while he spend a month long vacation...
Ummm.....
Good for him, he can kick my a** and I am 21 years younger

I believe it. You see on my ride yesterday I encountered some youths riding Mongoose MTB's and they rode with me at 20 mph for a short time. I'd say they were about 10-12 yo.
I imagine if the POTUS would take those trading cards out of his spokes he may even get faster.

Is that what my problem is? Geez, next you're gonna say I need to ditch the flowery basket, big honkin' horn and my pink streamers.

Not the pink streamers!!! BTW Fox News reports that "W" has new racing wheels that have titanium aero solid rims. The front has the Seal of the POTUS and the rear has a bullseye picture of Osama. OK, not really.

Oh, I think Osama has long been off his radar. The last thing POTUS wants to do is remind us that he's still out there.

Maybe it was "Obama" oh, that wasn't nice was it? Oh well with the way The Gov feels about opposing views these days, well maybe it was.

Not to stir up too much poo, but Randi Rhodes just said the funniest thing about this:

"He (the president) rode with Lance Armstrong, who as you know only as one testicle. So, between them, that's one."

Thanks I needed a good laugh. I'm glad to know that we can support his most relaxing vacation instead of addressing more important issues.

Its easy for people to bash Bush, just like its easy for me to Bash Kerry, Hillary, Kennedy, the list goes on and on...I love him, but isnt this the "Triathlon Talk" forum? This post started out on topic, but President bashing should be in another forum.

Everyone is entitled to their own (political or otherwise) opinion, but I did not post this to start a political discussion, but rather to highlight some of the President's physical fitness stats and viewpoints.   I, personally, am not very political at all, but simply interesting in comparing Bush's (or any other public figure) stats to mine and others.  That's all!

OK I'll go to another forum and bash Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, The Drug Addict, Mr. Greenjeans, Grizzly Adams, Dr. Phil, The '69 Mets, curry powder, and blah blah blah.
BTW you're right, we do get carried away at times and often have to be reminded.
