I am boycotting anyone who votes In N Out. I ate there for the first time two weeks ago. Haven't been back. I am ready for the barrage of "unAmerican" and "how do you live with yourself". I really don't get what the big deal is. McDonald's fries, all day, every day. Can only eat a few before I am sick of them though! You would think otherwise by looking at me, but still!
I vote for Fish n Chips with malt vinegar. There used to be the best place right under the bridge going into Canada back in MI. Yum. Or fry sauce. Utah phenomenon, but trust me, you are missing out!

Dude, what's the matter with you. You are so un-American. How do you live with yourself? The nice thing about In-N-Out fries is that they go from potato into the frier into your mouf. Fresh as you can get without making them yourself. I must admit that I have a soft spot in my stomach for the might potato. Homemade fries and chips are the best. I'm salivating now you unpatriotic unsophisticated no-good health food junky!

Wendy's but Arbies curly fries are a close, close second. Also Red Robin bottomless fries with a HUGE side of ranch...mmm...making me freaking hungry now.

Nothing tops homemade anything, be it fry, burger, donut. Unfortunately, it's too time consuming, especially when you have to train.

I don't eat fastfood of any kind for a variety of reasons. But, since there's no place on the poll for "Local Brew Pub" I voted for "homemade". The 3rd Street Ale Works, here in Santa Rosa, makes the most delicious garlic fries know to humankind.

I won't eat McD's fries since I saw the special feature on Supersize Me, where he put all the food into glass jars. Nope. I'd have to be starving to death.

Any "Who has the best French Freedom Fries" poll is incomplete without having Chick-fil-A included. Or is it just that they're already recognized as the best fries, hands down, and these other jokers are dukin it out for second place?

Gotta say homemade, because I love to make sweet potato fries for myself everyo once in a while, they are hard to find out there.

Now if my son was polled, he would say McDonalds.  He says it every time we pass one.

I vote for Tommyknocker's in Idaho Springs, CO.  The chili-cheese fries are the best!

You need an option for fair fries up there. Fair fries with lots of salt, vinegar, and ketchup....yum.

Fuel & Fuddle in Pittsburgh, PA. Sweet Potato fries and microbrewed beer. Yum.

I'm with you on that one. Whatevers making those things stay good after ten weeks exposed to the air isn't going in my stomach.

Never had sweet potato fries. I'm intrigued. I need to find a local joint to try that out.

You obviously didn't get them Animal Style which they will do for you. Did you know they have a secret menu thats not on their regular Menu? Actually I've never had In and Out so I really wouldn't know anything about it except what My Bro tells me. And He LOVES In and Out.

But as for me. If you are looking for fast food fries then I would have to say Wendys or Arbys.

No "fries" that have been frozen can EVER consider being good, let alone best.

Here's how to do it

fresh potatoes russetts are fine

hand cut into3/8 inch sticks

clean oil at 275-300 degrees

fry until mostly cooked, but not brown

drain

crank the oil up to 375

fry until brown

salt lightly and serve with vinegar and fresh homemade mayonaisse (not from a can) and a bottle of Chimay or Lucifer

YUM

McDonalds wishes..wishes...wishes they could actually make a french fry rather than the not-too life-like replicas they churn out, bleah

I would like to use your recipe but I insist on having a $149 mandoline (YES, THAT'S FRENCH) to cut my French Fries. I could use one of my snazzy Henckel's for the job but it just wouldn't be the same.

Tri gear freaks have nothing on kitchen gear freaks.

As a former (as in, before "tri-ing" kitchen gear freak, I must agree. You couldn't imagine my glee when I finished collecting my set of Chantal enamel pots and matching bakeware. I love them so much.

Too bad I don't have time to cook anymore! I used to be good at it.

I can imagine your glee - I love my Emile Henri enamel bakeware! I am a great cook, love to cook gourmet meals. Alas, I have no one to cook for anymore, no one to spoil with my delectable creations. I don't like to cook just for myself. I am going to treat myself tonight, though, by making risotto with chicken and zucchini. Just for me.

One of these days I'm going to make boeuf en croute (Beef Wellington) for a dinner party. Maybe I'll make a mini one for myself to practice... hmmmm...
