Anyone else racing Woodstock the weekend of June 11/12?  I'll be doing the Tri on Sunday.

Since the TaT is only a 300m swim, I'm planning of no wetsuit.  Hope I can still move whenI get out of the water. Surprised

I'm doing the sunday race.  First OWS is tomorrow in Pittock Lake (I live in Woodstock).  I know people who have been swimming in the lake for three weeks now.  It is surface water fed, so it should warm up quickly.  Last year at this time, it was hot swimming in the lake with a wetsuit.  A friend had to take hers off because she was overheating.  I can post after the swim (probably on Sunday) with a report on water temps and quality if people want.

I will be there Sunday for the "long" one. I don't think the water will be to bad. I have been OWS in Lakeside just outside of London and I think they are comparable bodies of water.

I'm doing the Duathlon on Sunday. This will be my first multisport event in about 4 years. I became a dedicated runner so my bike portion is gonna suck but I'm looking forward to the "fun" of Duathlons.

It should be warmer than lakeside.  Pittock is surface water fed and lakeside is groundwater fed.

Water temp this morning was a balmy 63 C.  No one was not wearing a wetsuit.  That said, there is still two weeks and it is supposed to get HOT this week.  I would think high 60s to low 70s race day.

Water was not very clear.

I wanted to give a quick update of the water.  As predicted, the water warmed up quite a bit this week, enough that I was getting a little too hot in my wetsuit this afternoon.  If you have a sleaveless suit I would recommend wearing that next weekend.  Water was much clearer.   Good swim.

Thanks for the water update. The forcast is not calling for much rain before the race so I'm hoping the water stays warm and clear (Turbidity goes up after rains in surface fed lakes).

I was just communicating with MSC regarding the swim at woodstock - it looks like there is a good chance of the swim not being wetsuit legal.  I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.  Their most recent water temp was 22C, so if it raises anymore (I' m guess it will with this 33C heat today!) it won't be wetsuit legal.

Scrap that - they just posted this on facebook

MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series
I can tell you that in 10 years we have only had one situation that called for a non-wetsuit swim because of temperature, which was a qualifier for age group world championships. Our series is about ensuring everyone feels safe and comforta...ble. If that means you need a wetsuit then you can wear a wetsuit unless the water is extremely warm for a longer race. Wow - its amazing that it warmed up so fast. Thanks for the update Laura. My kids will be happy that its warm enough for them to play in once the racers are done.

I'm gonna draw a hot bubble bath and 'train' while reading a book.

Just curious, how do the Milk Series events compare to the Subaru Series?

I'd never even heard of the Milk Series before.

They appear to be shorter at the sprint distance (at least Woodstock is) so that could decrease the defibrillator likelihood for me.

"Milk" is the title sponsor for the Multisport Canada Series ( in the past they were known as the HSBC series).  Its run by John Salt who does a wonderful job making it safe and fun - I've done about 20 races with them in the past 5 years and I enjoyed every one of them.

The distances vary - some sprints are 'true sprints' (half of an Olympic) and some are 'extended sprints' (1/2 olympic swim and 3/4 olympic bike and run).

I find that its a great series for bringing my kids along - the locations are often kid friendly, and they make sure their race locations have clean water for swimmimng. The competition level might be a little more relaxed than the Subaru series which seems to attract the more elite fields (thought there are always a few elite racers at the 'Milk' series races too).

Agree with what Mark said.   Excellent series - very well organized, safe, fun, somewhat smaller races than Subaru, friendlier, and better food.   I think they are the 2nd largest tri series in Canada now.  They've been around for over 10yrs, was sponsored by HSBC, and now milk this yr.  So according to John Salt, you will get chocolate milk as recovery drink after every race this yr.  Since racing with them, I seldom do the Subaru races anymore.

This series is the same as Multisport Canada Series they just have a new title sponsor and changed the name to match that. They have all distances from tri a tri to him I believe just depends on the site. Woodstock has an event on Sunday that is slightly longer than a sprint also.

I have never done a Subaru Series race so can't compare, but the Multisport(milk) series races I did last year were run excellently.

Anyone know if they reach a cutoff on registrations for this race?

The online registration is now closed, and although it says there is race day registration would prefer not to make the long drive to find out they're full.

I've emailed the address listed on their site, no response yet.
