Buttercup 14334 | Subject: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms Reposting here. Participants are expected to know and agree to abide by the terms (that means no welching on the losers' terms!). December Swim Challenges Rules & Terms If your 2006 Calendar includes a Spring triathlon, now is the time to resume and/or kickstart your swim fitness training. Rules/Guidelines
Determining Winning Team(s) Calculations for determining winning team will be done a little different than in the past. It will be a combination of % of team members who reached their goal + final percentage of aggregrate team goal attainment. In this way, both individual goal attainment and team effort both carry weight. It also levels the playing field (for teams with fewer team members). It will work like this:
Terms for Losing Teams As much as I enjoyed all the spanky-butt avatars after the girls whooped the boys in the Original Swim Challenge, this non-gender-specific challenge does not offer the same kind of enticements. Besides, we’ve already done that, we need to do something more clever, original,
Other Legally Binding Stuff:
The ultimate goal is for you to meet your goal. That’s what it’s all about. That, and a little smack talking. Have a cookie? |

Master 1902 Berkeley, CA | Subject: RE: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms 2 questions Renee (you know, just for perfect clarity. And don't we all want that???) 1. When you say 'blog', I assume you mean in our training logs, yes? 2. What is the end time for (others, as surely this will not be me...) to have their signature line changed... also the end of January? My thanks, Captain Administrator Queen-of-the-Forum Renee. Dana |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: Loser's signature line/homage to winners Thank you, Morey1, for providing this jewel. If your team loses, you agree to change your signature line to the following for the period of January 1 through January 31.
And no Animal House "Insert Winning Team Name" literal antics either! Winning team's name is inserted (like I don't know this crowd). Edited by Renee 2005-11-21 3:39 PM |

Master 1320 Chilliwack, BC | Subject: RE: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms Question: can we increase our totals after say week 1/2 if we underestimated? I can't estimate my training with two weeks of exams. It could be +/- 10k those weeks. And depending on whether I'm fit enough to train with the club, my christmas training could be anywhere from 30-60km Question: Can a team member give total in hours or should they try and give it in Meters/yards? Thanks Renee? |

Expert 623 Wye Mills, MD | Subject: RE: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms Calculate the percentage of team members who reached their goal. Calculate the aggregrate team goal attainment average (throwing out anything over 100%). Average these 2 numbers. The team with the highest average of these two numbers wins.
According to the above rules, there is no benefit to swimming/logging more than 100%. In fact, if >100% results are thrown out, it is detrimental to swim/log beyond your stated goal. I know I should have brought this up earlier, say November, but I would suggest that if you swim >100%, your results are not thrown out, but rather just counted as 100%. I understand the rationale of discounting >100%ers, to avoid sandbagging, but for those who set the bar high, and over-achieve, it seems wrong to eliminate them from the results. Plus if a person is apt to sandbag, given the current rules, they will simply stop logging at 100%, so their results count. |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms Maybe this is a misunderstanding on my part, but my understanding of the rules is that if a swimmer does say 125% of goal, only the excess 25% would be discounted. The original 100% would be awarded to that swimmer. Is my understanding incorrect? Thanks for any clairification. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Dec Swim Challenge Rules/Terms The max you can contribute towards your team's aggregrate is 100%. If you reach 150% of your goal, your contribution will be counted as 100%. |
