Extreme Veteran  341   Houston, TX |  Subject: Perfect ring for the coming nuptials?I know my fiancee loves me dearly, but do you think I'd be pushing it if I got this ring for the coming wedding in Feb '06? http://www.escapesdesign.com/rings/carbon/rcf_u_002.html Understand - the bike fund has been raided more than once for THE EVENT, so I am trying to salvage some vestige of carbon fiber goodness for THE (eventual) PURCHASE.

If you can't afford to manage the wedding and all it requires AND a new bike... then choose which one is most important to you. If you're willing to sacrifice aspects of your marriage/wedding for the sake of a bicycle... then maybe there are other issues that need to be recognized instead of the bank account. <--- now on Mrs. Wookie #3 (and definitely the last). |

But there is always something to be said for a nice gold or platinum ring. I have even seen titanium advertised ........ but that is close to the idea of the carbon ring ....... :shrugs: |

My husband wanted titanium and I didn't. He got the ring he wanted and I got the ring I wanted. Our engravings match on the inside. The important thing is that they are a symbol of our marriage and we're both happy wearing them. |

I had a long talk last night before bedtime and the future Mrs. Gomez and I talked (don't you love it when arguments devolve into rational discussions with the spouse? Makes me know I've got the right woman). I think she's going to go platinum (matches her engagement ring) and I will go titanium (it matches my watch). My beloved loves silver and platinum , so it's a good compromise. While I thought (for about 2 minutes) the carbon fiber ring was cool, ultimately I came around to thinking long view - I will have it forever and didn't want something too terribly trendy. As you know, the word diamond comes from the Greek adamao. It means to subdue or to tame. Not a very good symbol for a marriage of mutual self giving. 'Course in the tradition of giving a pre-nuptual diamond it was meant to symbolize mutual fidelity. But if only the woman wears it, what does that mean? An endlessly circling ring of gold, the metal that symbolizes eternity, worn on the third finger , the one the ancient Egyptians thought contained a vein connected directly to the heart, that's the ticket. |
