Pre-race routine:

Ate a waffle with peanut butter and some coffee. Had some hammmer gel half hour before race start. Talked to JuliaPurr and her husband and some other friends at the race. It was butt cold out there. I sat in the car with the heater cranked for most of the morning until about 10 minutes before race start. Good thing it started to snow!
Event warmup:

Quick run for about 5 minutes, adjust my helmet so my balaclava would fit under it, and put on another pair of pants.
Run
  • 27m 43s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was good, I started out slow today and hit mile one at 6:26. Picked it up a bit after that and passed 4 people to make a gap. The hills were tough on me today had to go slow. A guy caught me at the end of the run. I was ok with that today. Lengthened my stride on the downhill and got ready for the bike freeze.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, good training pace for me today.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Slow- had to sit down and put on the booties and wipe off my glasses, they were fogged up. 3or4 people passed me in T1. Expected slow today, I wanted to be warm.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

Guesses on ranks and place finishes but I counted about that many people ahead of me at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Post race
Warm down:

Put the bike away and tried to get warm in the car. Talked to Julia and she did awesome! Way to go Julia 1:13 something.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

EArly season and lack of training.

Event comments:

Fun winter race. It was very cod but I managed to stay warm on the bike. I basically raced in my ski clothes minus a jacket.
A bit slower than last year but that is ok cause it was very cold and I have little training under my belt. My 1:12 run yesterday could have played a factor.

I can't imagine that a 1:20 run yesterday could have affected your performance today It was great to see you and know that there would be someone I knew there today. Great race! The cold was VERY motivating for me today. Hope your cheeks warmed up quickly!!
