Who's sick of the figure skating drama?

i also feel totally bad for michelle kwan.  she was just chasing the dream (can you blame her for wanting olympic gold?), AND you were right, the same thing happened 8 years ago when they let tonya harding skate and bumped michelle off the team.  she never complained (to the media at least).  and at least she made the difficult decision to drop out now, instead of competing anyway, when she couldn't have been her best.

 i respect her, she works very hard.

Totally disgusts me. My mouth dropped in horror as they ran a tribute to "the most celebrated Olympian at the games." Talk about nauseating.

1. She never won a gold medal.

2. She shouldn't have been there in the first place.

3. There saying she is withdrawing due to injury (which isn't really true - she's withdrawing because she couldn't train due to injury, therefore, she should not have been there taking a spot from someone who could represent the USA better. I thought you had to compete for the right to represent the USA...).

4. I'm fed up with having skating shoved down my throat.

5.  Even after "fixing" their scoring system, they still will not give decent scores to someone whom they do not know. At least with golf you either win or you don't.

I'd rather watch curling.

It's actually *less* of a sport than golf. At least golf is objective...at the end of it, you *know* who won--it's not based on the opinion of judges.

Figure skating is athletic in a way that golf isn't, but so is ballet.

I'm in no way defending figure skating but it is far from the only sport that has judging as a part of the scoring.  Do you feel the same way about halfpipe, moguls, ski jumping, etc?

I like watching those events, but I prefer the ones that the time is the only determining score.

Yeah, I do. IMO, judged events (meaning those in which the results and placements are subjective) don't belong in the Olympics. This goes for diving, synchro swimming, equestrian, etc, etc.

I agree - watching the halfpipe, it was clear that all the crushed tomato had to do was not fall and he was going to win the gold medal.

It gave me a bad taste in my mouth.

A: 1 to do it, and a million to complain they could have done it better if they'd just been given a chance.

I'd hate to see ballet judged in an Olympic type setting -- you'd never get a consensus on the results. It'd be infuriating. However, I will say that "sports" like figure skating, et al are given a great platform in the Olympics to show off what they do and what they do well ... great exposure to arts that wouldn't otherwise have it.

I agree, but  figure skating doesn't need the Olympics to draw exposure. It'd be horribly popular even without it.

Seriously, It's arguably a beautiful, artistic discipline. Add that it's seemingly a never-ending soap opera and I get its appeal.

How funny is it that we're already complaining about it and it hasn't even started yet?

I think they should ring the cowbells and blast air horns during the routines.
