Subject: RE: Office Pet PeevesA guy at work (okay my immediate supervisor) doesn't know enough about the job we do to form a professional opinion about anything. Often he asks for my opinion. A week later, he calls me aside to give me his opinion about something and he doesn't remember that the opinion he is giving me is word for word, the opinion I gave him a week ago. That happens a lot. Pretty much any time there is an issue about which someone might have an opinion. I like it even more when I tell him I was the one who gave him that opinion, and I get the blank "how do I change the subject without looking like a complete jacka$$" stare. Example: A while back we were talking about the quality of an ultrasound image on a new device we use to start deep intravenous lines. He had heard there was a problem with the image quality and he sought my opinion. So I threw in a "made up" word and told him I thought it was a "modulation" issue with the ultrasound probe. Sure enough, about a week later he came and told me he thought the problem with the ultrasound was a modulation issue. I asked him what he was talking about, pulled out the manual and oddly enough, there was nothing in the instructions about image modulation. Yeah I'm kinda mean sometimes...... |
