Subject: Watch Fetishists?
After a recent business trip where I got a close up look at a few really nice watches worn by colleagues (Rolex, Breitling etc.) I have developed a bit of a watch fetish. Since that time I have learned that, while the Rolexes and Breitlings are really hot watches, there is a whole stratosphere of watches out there (names like Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet) which give new meaning to the word exclusive.

Anybody else have this interest, or does it not go further than Timex Ironmans and HRMs?

I have a thing for men who wear nice watches. It's gotta be the right size/shape/proportion to the girth of the wrist. It's gotta be sporty but elegant. Plain old sporty will do too. Men who wear watches too small for their wrist ... that's just ooky.

Not quite what you're asking but you did use the term "fetish."

I've never worn anything but a Timex or something similar to that.  It just never really crosses my mind to do otherwise.

i like a man who likes his watches.

as for me, i was into swatches in jr. high, but other than that i haven't had much interest. i'm way too hard on my watches to spend any money on them. my grandfather was very into them though, especially pocket watches and grandfather clocks.

I almost asked the dude at the LBS out for *ahem* drinks because a) he was nice and 2) I liked his watch. It was very sporty and masculine. Big, too. He said he got it at a dive shop. Maybe I should pop in to that LBS this weekend...

Goof intended.

Bah! Just need something to tell time, anything more is ostentatious and smacks of conspicuous consumption.

Although I do get strange looks when I wear my Forerunner with a business suit.

I worked at a watch store in high school, so I have a bit of a watch fetish.  I'm a big fan of Movados and Skagens because they are so thin.  Although, I can appreciate pretty much any nice watch.

I like watches, but I don't know enough about them. Some people argue that uber-premium goods like Patek or Ferrari are good investment because their value don't depreciate. Besides, you can wear them (or drive them) and people will notice. Also, ladies can show off their wealth by wearing massive diamonds. For guys, it pretty much come down to the watch, unless you are Diddy or Kanye.

Don't think I can ever afford a Patek.. So haven't spent much time on it.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how some friends of yours had invited you to spend the evening at a BDSM club and you weren't sure how to respond.

Guess I know where my mind is this afternoon. I'm a Timex IM guy.

New bike/ Rolex; New bike/Rolex; New Bike/Rolex.....hmmm, my choice is clear. The bike! Timex tells my time just as good as a Rolex, although I do notice when people wear a Rolex, and I find myself amazed at the number of college students who apparently can afford one.

I LOVE watches!!! On a daily basis, I wear a Texas Timex (read: Rolex). Although not exclusive or expensive, I think the Rolex is far and away the best daily wear watch. While I love Patek and Piguet, I can't really justify something that expensive until my house is paid off. For now, I lust from afar...

Next puchase will likely be a Panerai--also not that expensive or exclusive, but pretty sweet nonetheless.

Gah! Rolex is pretty expensive and exclusive to me!

This is what I wear:

http://www.thepurists.com/watch/features/8ohms/7s26/

Maybe one day I'll get a Rolex, but I have to admit to loving Breitling dive watches and Omegas too...and Tags. Oh, I could go on! An AP or a Patek would be nice, but I don't know if I'm ready to drop the $15,000+ on one.

They key for me is a watch that is automatic. I just really find that to be the coolest thing.

Watches are the only thing that turn me into a pure consumer. I become completely irrational!

I have no prob with fetishes, but I don't wear a watch unless I'm working out.  Rare occassions I've worn one over the years I wear it on my right hand for some reason.  It's only comfortable there.  I don't know why.  Chalk it up as reason #456 that there's something wrong with me.

I'm not much for jewelry, period, although I had my earring phase (late 80's) and nipple ring phase (early 90's).  No necklaces, except for a leather strap with a GWS tooth on it in my younger days.

Same here; I only wear one to workout or to some place important like a job interview where I need to make sure I'm on time. I don't wear watches that much because I'm prone to breaking them. I own 4 cheapy watches, and at any given time 2 are in need of serious repair, one needs a band, and the other requires a battery.

I kept reading Renees Posts after looking at the avatar and not the name. I was wondering why Max was talking about admiring men and trying to pick them up at the LBS. I knew that he dressed in drag at least once but didn't think Patti would appreciate him checking out guys.

To me a watch is a watch exept the one that I am currently wearing. One with a NY Logo with pinstripes on the face.

I just bought my wife this watch for our 13th wedding anniversary:

All she wanted was a cheap fossil, until she saw that watch.
