Subject: Anyone know HTML OK? Q re HTML table in training log

I created a table with links to each member's blog in my mentor group, from scratch in HTML. Shows up perfectly in several HTML editors.

When I paste the code into the HTML window for my blog, the result in the blog looks nothing like it should.

Any ideas? Thanks.

cornick - 2011-12-28 11:29 PM What kind of blogging software? Do you have a link?

It's my blog/training log here on BT. No software. I just write the code in a word processor and try it out in online HTML editors (used to use FrontPage when I had it). I am a VERY elementary HTML coder.

I'll post the HTML below. Ignore whatever it is that designates it as text.

I've been using a FREE WYSIWYG.  It's good for us non-programmers...

WYSIWYG - pronounced "wheezy-wig" - means What You See Is What You Get

Go with percentages instead of px for widths.  Here, something like this...

<table style="width: 98%;" border="0" align="center">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top" width="100%">your stuff here</td></tr></tbody></table>

Or you can use two <td> tags at 50% and have two columns of equal width..., etc.

I think - but could be wrong - the issue is with the "BODY" tag....

Unfortunately, the blog doesn't have a PASTE AS PLAIN TEXT option, only a PASTE button. That MIGHT be messing up the code somewhere (it happens in word documents frequently as word likes to add stuff).

When I looked at the code in the html editor, it had stripped out all of the < /tr > and < tr > tags.  I reinserted them to make it look like I did.

Edit to put spaces after the brackets as the tags were stripped out again.

It looks OK in Dreamweaver, what did you want it to look like? What was wrong?

Score!  I now retract my statement in the "Not motivated" thread about accomplishing slightly above nothing.  I'm way beyond that now!

axteraa - 2011-12-29 12:44 AM Score!  I now retract my statement in the "Not motivated" thread about accomplishing slightly above nothing.  I'm way beyond that now!

You've given Santa's (naughty) elf a lovely gift, and I'm in with the Big Fat Jolly Guy, so you're good no matter what you do next year.

And you've given a whole (very eager) Manatee Pod an easy way to stay in touch with each other.

Mentor groups rock. And you helped make that happen. "Way beyond" is exactly right!

I just noticed there are more errors in the code - the links have extra stuff in them.  The first one for Lynn is ok but the rest will have to be cleaned up as they first have a link to the forums and then the rest of the link to the training logs (does that make sense?).

Yep. The linking ain't complete and the table's not final, but we'll be good to go when it is.

OK, see if this is any better for you. I'm attaching the code as a document. If you want to paste it in, remove everything except what's between the

TriAya - 2011-12-28 1:30 PM For some reason, the silly background image manatee will not show up ...

In the code that ends up in your blog there are some < b > and < /b > tags on either side of the link to the manatee image.  ie. background-image: url< b >< /b >('http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7023/6584534955_eca6914a51_o.jpg'< b >< /b >

Firefox reports that it can't parse that so it drops it.  Try removing those.

I've noticed when pasting the code into my blog, then having it appear in WYSIWYG, it's perfect.

Then I save it. It still looks perfect (no longer in editing window; normal blog view).

Then when I refresh, the manatee went on sojourn.

I go into the editor again and look into the HTML ... and the code for the background image has disappeared.

I wanted vigorous butt crack scrubbing!

Thank you for putting your effort in this, Axenhottie ... errrr the table I mean, not butt crack.
