Just curious what other people spend on groceries per week.  I can't believe what I spend on a family of 6.

Family of 4.  On average about $225 a week.  I bring my lunch to work and we do not eat out very often.

What are you buying?  I just looked what we spend the last two weeks and we spend $500/wk.  This does not include buying lunches and eating out....ouch!  We must be doing something wrong.

Family of six:  $900/m grocery budget.  About $150/m for eating out.

Kinda hard with two teenage boys and a triathlete in the house

family of 4  spending $125 weekly.  half of our grocery buying takes place at a bent/banged/near-to-sell by date store.  otherwise, it'd be ALOT more expensive.

Family of 5 - $200 week.  That includes 2 triathletes, 2 girls, and one 2 year old tank.  I abuse the Commissary and get as many manufacturers coupons as well as all the coupons just for the military.  If I didn't have to buy pullups/diapers for 2 kids, we would be down to about $150 a week.

We do not eat out much, maybe once a week.

We average anywhere from $100 to $140 depending on what's going on with the meat in the freezer for a family of 4 (boys are still little).
I imagine once my boys hit the teens that is all going to change :/

family of five, about $250/wk before eating out (we eat out once maybe twice a week for dinner and take lunch every day).  We buy all fresh fruits and vegetable and all organic too.  $500?????  You eating gold?

I live in Houston though and cost of living (which DOES translate to groceries) is lower here.

In Columbus, IN, our family of 5 was spending about $150/wk on groceries.  This includes some pretty good couponing by my wife... on the order of about $30/wk. It also included 5 gallons of milk per week.

In Beijing It's closer to $200 a week and we plan on eating out 2x a week, and I eat out for lunch every day.

We eat all organic or try to.  Any eat a lot fo veggies/fruit but $500 seems too high for me.  I include toilet paper, deodorant, soap, etc in this as well.

$50-$75 a week, family of just me.

I usually eat out ~one dinner a week and ~a few salad lunches a week are purchased at the work cafeteria. But otherwise I cook almost every meal at home and make leftovers.

$20 for one person. If I eat out or order in a few times a week, that'd be $40 total.

If I really scrimped, planned very carefully, hit the open-air markets early in the morning I could pay $8/week.

About $120/wk for myself and the boyfriend.

We usually use this website: www.relishrelish.com For $7 a month, you get a new list of recipies weekly, pick a few, and it generates a recipe list and shopping list. (if anyone reads this and signs up, PM me for my full name and use me as your referral source). I hate menu planning, and this keeps me buying what we need when we need it.

It doesn't work well with special diets, like vegan, gluten free, etc - though it does have recipes that offer those, just not a large variety.

ETA: They have a bunch that are $12 for 4 servings.

One (small) box of Tarts, IF they're available here, is $11.

Love relishrelish! I would say with our milk and vegetable delivery we are at $150 a week for a family of 4. We usually eat out 2 meals a week and I buy lunch maybe once a week.

Food is our biggest monthly expense.  My wife pays for it out of her account so I couldn't put an exact number on it, but I'd have to say over $1200.00 per month.  That includes lunches for 3 kids in school and home meals that are nearly always prepared from fresh ingredients, or at least the freshest we can find.....we don't eat anything out of a box and we'll frequently pick up the ingredients for that nights dinner on our way home from where ever we are.  We'd spend our last dollar on something really good to eat.

I have no idea, and honestly don't want to know... I am bliss in my ignorance.

True story:

My wife stops at the store a few nights ago to pick up a couple of things we need.  She usually does one "big" shopping trip a month, so a few times during the month she need to run in and pick milk, bread, some produce, that kind of stuff.

So anyway she comes home and is unloading a few things and holds up a bag of grapes and asks me "how much do you think this cost".  I sized it up, held it for weight, and I shoot back "$2.50"  She proceeds to laugh, tell me I'm out of touch and say "try $8.25"

Thank God she does the shopping!

I spend on average $200 a week for my husband and me. But we shop at Whole Foods and we live in a high-cost-of-living area.

Family of four in your neck of the woods. We eat mostly organic, all meals prepared at home (including lunches) with one night out a week. Our weekly budget for food is $200. I used to be a chef - so cooking from scratch is a pleasure and finding ways to reuse something that was made for a previous meal is in my nature. What kills me is the amount of food my children throw away...they'll learn.

Family of 6 and we spend about $380-400/week.  We order out about 1-2 times per month, so I make nearly all of our meals from scratch.
