I appreciate that. Sometimes we are subject to a level of moderation around here that is so draconian is pushes excellent contributors off the site. I know so many amazing folks who used to post here who have either been banned or just given up due to the level of forum moderation the owners of this site feel they need to maintain. That's their prerogative but the loss to the community is severe. I was banned for a month once because I told someone who was a total idiot that they were a total idiot. Now a thread titled "I can eat anything?" thread has disappeared from the forum. No explanation.

Thank you for supporting my contributions to our community. I receive many PM's from people who have gleaned some value from my participation here and that means the world to me. I wish those that run BT had a little more respect for their community as well.

By the way, this thread will likely be gone shortly as well.

Wasn't even that good, TJ. Speaking of the few high quality contributors that are still around.

Why did they pull the "I can eat anything....." thread?  I was really enjoying that thread and hearing all the viewpoints on the role of food relative to staying fit from people of varying degrees of athleticism.  Grrrr......

To completely hijack and say that it is people like you Bryan, Tj, Shane, Fred (hopefully he comes back), and Johnny K.  that make this site a valuable resource for us fledglings.  Thanks.  (there are plenty of others as well)

I was wondering what happened to that thread.  I started that thread on WEDNESDAY! and it was still on the front page and had 6 pages of posts!  That's got to be a personal record, usually when I post a thread its off page one in a day!  Though I have to admit I have been a bit busy since posting that and didn't get caught up after about page 2...  Its like having to return a library book after only reading the first few chapters!

+1000

I wear Zoot and am inspired to be a competitive AGer because of Bryan and I'm a much better swimmer because of TJ (and now do flip turns).

Most forums contact posters or edit posts. Seems like they throw the baby out with the bath water sometimes.

I know what you are saying Bryan. I've been on BT since 2008 though I seldom post anymore. I really don't even lurk much anymore. It's not so much that I don't find triathlon interesting as I have been active in the sport for about 25-years. But the site seems to be less interesting than it once was. IMO, because of the discussions that have been pulled and the interesting members that left or have been banned.

yep, I've been here since 2005, and seen the ebbs and flows of the site. I find myself hanging out less around here lately. not sure if its because the topics are less challenging or some of the people who made me think are gone. I hang out for 2 reasons. 1. to pick up tidbits from newbies who have unique questions that might lead me down different paths and 2. to help those where I can with my 25+ years experience. When the taste and feel of a forum becomes more and more vanilla in nature, interest starts to wane.  I know the powers that be have made a point to keep this place a welcoming venue for those new to the sport, and that's great, but if you're too heavy handed in enforcing that, it shifts from welcoming to boring.

Didn't read the thread in question beyond the 2 nd page so not sure why it would be pulled unless people were being disrespectful.

I also appreciate the feedback of everyone on this thread whether they are accomplished like Bryan or a beginner. Always feel you can always learn from others.

I have not been in this board as long as some so I am unaware of the banned members or pulled threads but I would like to give the " owners" the benefit of the doubt that they were pulled it for good reason.

Oh, it wasn't random. I got a PM form the person who received a one month ban because of a comment they made in the thread. I saw how post and it was nothing, a little obnoxious but nothing anyone couldn't handle and nothing I am not guilty of. My issue is inserted of coming into the thread to tell folks to cool it, they just pull it with no explanation, thus creating even more confusing.

This forum has lost so many valuable members due to draconian moderation. It's likely to continue.

What are the other options?  Slowtwitch?  Right now ST is 99% LA threads.  Prior to that is sure seemed like 99% of the responses were just a-hole responses.

Maybe BT is trying to push away more experienced people with their management of the forums.  Maybe they want to keep the beginner in BT.

But then what are you left with?

Perhaps a more communicative, conversational form of moderation. And I think ST is perfectly fine in that it allows adults to be adults. You can take it or leave it and separate the wheat from the chaff at your own personal discretion as opposed to having that sensibility forced upon you.

I have no desire to go to ST... so tired of flame discussions on the interweb. And in this subject, testosterone wins out. I think BT does some things very well, and it does amaze me how beginner friendly it has remained. I do agree with you that obviously you do not want to be left with only beginners helping beginners because then it isn't as much of a value as it is now. The only thing I would like to see more is more warning before threads get pulled. On other forums everyone knows what happened and had plenty of chance to correct... but when things just disappear for no apparent reason, ya I don't get that.

I do wish that reasons were posted.I would never purposely post a thread-killer, so I would like to know if it was me and why.If I was not a reason, but a thread I posted to got pulled.... I would want to know that it wasn't me also....

That no explanation part bothers me too. I don't have a good idea of where the line is here. I can't see someone else's mistake and there is no explanation of why it was a mistake, so how is anyone else supposed to avoid doing that before doing it themselves? Whether or not it should be banned is another issue for discussion, but we should at least know where the line is. I've been here not quite a year, so less than a number of others, but I'm on very regularly and still not quite clear on this yet. Is it possible to lock a thread, delete the highly offensive parts, and then post a reason why it was locked so we can see it?

And on another note. ST does have a gem of a thread every now and then, but I go there more for entertainment. One thread devolved into three straight pages on the merits of heating syrup (or not) before putting it on the pancakes. That kind of entertainment is hard to find.

I'm new, but I feel the same way.  This site is seriously over moderated.  Anything interesting quickly gets deleted.

"a little obnoxious" to some may have been very offensive to others. I never read the thread, just stating there are two sides to the story. I'm not a mod, but do understand it's probably not the easiest job. Every one wants freedom to speak their minds, but most of us prefer it in a respectfull manor
