Any idea how long she'll be in hospital and then rehabbing?

Don't know yet. We're going to go up to the hospital tonight, assuming she's still there. She'll be on crutches (when she is released) for at least 6 weeks. I foresee a long rehab/PT regimen.

I have lived around boats and water all my life.  This is the accident I fear most.  I remember some good friends who were hit just after high school graduation and had similar injuries.  It was a long road back but they did recover.  I will pray for a full recovery for your niece.

My thoughts are with her but at the same time I'm glad it wasn't worse.  She's lucky to still be here.

Might be a good time to remind the triathletes here to take extra care on OWS.  Make sure you're as visible as possible and take every precaution if you're on a boating lake.

*just for clarity I'm NOT blaming her in any way... I cringe at this kind of accident happening to anyone.

Spudone is right. I had an incident a few weeks ago with boaters entering a no boats area where people were swimming. One drunk threatened to "run me down" for telling him that he was putting people in danger and he had to leave the area.

Focus on the positive.  That definitely could have been worse.  Positive vibes sent.

She posted on FB - so at least she is coherent enough :-)

She said she hopes to go home tomorrow.

I can NOT imagine how horrible that would be. Emotionally as well as physically.

Thanks from her family. I'm guessing her mom & dad are beside themselves! (I hope her dad was in town...he travels to Turkey frequently.)

Aw, hell, Dave.

Prayers and thoughts. Hope the recovery is as full and quick as can be. 

I just got back from visiting her about an hour ago. She was awake, but dosed up on morphine.

She had been tubing behind one of two boats, fell off, and was swimming back to the boat when the second boat came around slowing down. She tried to dive, but the life jacket she was wearing made her float -- she couldn't get out of the way. Prop cut her lower left leg half-way through (severing the tibia and partially the fibula), and then hot the top of her left foot, cutting into tendons (but not severed) and breaking 4 of the 5 long bones (all but the big toe). The bones are pinned, tendons which were severed have been sutured. Doctors think she'll make a very good recovery, and should have full mobility and sensation, so nerve damage is likely minimal.

Thank you all for the prayers, good thoughts, and healing vibes. It means a lot to have "prayer warriors" to call on.
