Highly considering one of these for vacation next year, most likely the Pyrenees Sea to Sea or the Mallorca Ride Camp.  Has anyone done any of Trek's European tours and can comment?

I know one BTer who used them this spring... Hopefully he will pipe up, I can't remember who it was.  They seem very nice.

I'm a cheapskate (I prefer to use frugal), so I am more of a self-guided tour kind of girl.  If you're generally interested in options, both self-guided and guided, peruse https://www.biketoursdirect.com/.

There are SO MANY options out there. I did this in 2011.  The self-guided was fantastically fun.     I am planning to book a tour with another company, Cyclomundo, for next Spring.

Yeah we had discussed self guided tours but in the end decided we just don't want to worry about or deal with any of it, simply show up and go.

I have nothing to add, but Ive wanted to do the Pyrenees Sea to Sea trip for a while now -- looks fantastic (but a little pricy).

thebigb - 2012-08-14 11:50 AM Yeah we had discussed self guided tours but in the end decided we just don't want to worry about or deal with any of it, simply show up and go.

I get that, and I can think of cases where it would have been handy to have the help of someone who knew the area. And we might  have gotten lost once...  But there really was nothing to worry/deal with.  We just put out our bags each morning, hopped on the bikes and went.   Totally our own schedule (which is why we liked self-guided), the maps were fine and easy to follow.  Everything was arranged for us, we just had to get ourselves from point to point.  We were even given points along the way to stop at, etc.     I just wanted to clarify that aspect of it.

That actually sounds a little nicer than what I was thinking.  So they carted everything for you as well, you just rode solo is really the only difference?

Yes. You have to check the details with each company, but every self-guided I have seen includes luggage transfer.

With the company we used we reported to the shop on the first day.  We got a booklet with hotels and maps, and a booklet with the route for each day.  We just had to have our bags at the front door of the hotel by 9 AM and they were always waiting for us at the next hotel.  For the entire day, we just followed the maps and stopped wherever.    The nice thing about being alone is we could stop at random places to take pictures. One day I spent about 30 minutes cooing at a baby goat, just because I could.    We were given a number for help, if needed.

I will send you a PM with my blog so you can see the details.

Wife and I did Tuscany this year with Trek Travel.

It ain't cheap, but they did a great job.  The camp in Mallorca is (usually) run by Jenn.  She is awesome and "so pro".

My aunt went through a Canadian company and biked through Cuba, but then she also did China, and 4 times across the USA.  Not bad for an 85 year old lady.  Although in all fairness, she did get arrested and fined coming back into the US, even though the Canadian company said she wouldn't.
