is there something non-political, non-religious, non-sexually-referenced that can be brought up that hasn't been covered yet in COJ??

We've had great poems by our BT's own poet.
We've had t.p. - over or under?
We've had Flo the Progressive Lady/Girl - hot?
We've had cool camera pictures taken and posted by our BT own.
Beer - what you got?
Ask Bear?

I know that is a limited set of four topics, but, I think COJ has slowed down some.

Whatup, yo?  I know there has to be some more undiscovered schtuff out there that hasn't been covered!  Post ye, one and all!

Whatup, yo?  I know there has to be some more undiscovered schtuff out there that hasn't been covered!  Post ye, one and all!

Books - what are you reading/listening to? I've just finished a couple of great books on tape - Gone Girl (that everyone seems to be talking about), followed by an earlier book by the same author - Sharp Objects, and after I listened to Red Shirts, I listened to another one by the same author - Fuzzy Nation. I've started listening to books on tape for my runs and dog walking, so I have a lot more time to listen than to read.

Movies - in theaters and in your home. I saw Indiana Jones on the Imax this week, and it was as much fun as I remembered. And I finally got around to watching Benjamin Button on DVD - 2 hours and 46 minutes made ME feel like I was aging at the wrong speed.

TV shows - Yay for the return of Sons of Anarchy. And I still have several seasons on Bones to catch up on from Netflix. And I am on the list to get Dexter as well. Hoping that Revolution turns out to be the next Battlestar Gallactica and not the next Terra Nova.

Podcasts - I like The Dinner Party, Radiolab, Freakonomics, This American Life, How to Do Everything, 99% Invisible, and NPS Pop Culture Happy Hour.

Of course, they have all been covered at one time or another in COJ. But they all make for nicely non-controversial topics.

Does food count?  I was thinking about a thread on authentic foods and I was thinking Mexican, because I live close to Omaha that my wife and I try to have a "date night" once a month at minimum that we go eat somewhere with good food.  We are right now kinda stuck on the 24th street area of Omaha where we get fresh "al pastor" tacos either at a vendor that basically only does that or at one of three others in the area that serve other foods.  The only reason I found out about "al pastor" was because of an employee of mine that is from Mexico and is a great cook.  He sent me to the 24th street area that I would not have known about otherwise.

I've often felt the need to start an inappropriate questions thread. It would be a place you can go to relax and ask questions such as do you ever feel the need to wipe after farting?

There I started a new one about what countries have you visited...

I always have to resist the temptation to post various political news threads.  I'm a politics junkie and spend a few hours every day reading political stories on both sides of the spectrum.  I love the diversity of opinions here on BT and want to post them for discussion because this is seriously the best place I've found to get spirited yet respectful debate on the topics of the day.

If i post on a conservative or liberal forum it's just militant kool aid drinkers and you get shouted down if you disagree, so it's pointless to even post.

During the summer there seems to be a common argument amongst my co-workers / friends / family on the best way to cook sweet corn.  Maybe it's an Iowa thing, but we take our corn pretty darn serioulsy.

As a Sioux City native I get that too.  lol

But the answer of course is you place the corn into a pot of cold water.  Add a decent amount of sugar to the water.  Bring water to boil.  When it reaches a rolling boil your corn is ready.

I agree.  People on BT seem to at least want to have the discussion.  Marmadaddy does a good job of making sure it stays civil.  It's my favorite place to talk Politics.  Even if it's not very productive ;-)

I remember asking COJ if they "licked the plate."  I just wanted ya'll to know I still lick the plate...much to the dismay of my wife.  I am steadfast in my belief it's a sign of respect for great food!

I lick the cup too.  I go all Gene Simmons on my Yoplait yogurts...I hate to see good yogurt go to waste.

This is how I was raised to cook it too.  Then of course I marry a girl from the Northside (I'm a Morningsider) and she teaches me a new method.  Butter the corn, wrap it in wax paper, and microwave it for 2 minutes per ear.  It comes out perfect and it is not near the time as boiling the water.  Plus, your kitchen doesn't get near has hot from the boiling water.  Gotta try it out sometime.

At the state fair I heard about "Cooler Corn".  New concept to me.  Place boiling water in a cooler, throw the corn in there, and 45 minutes later it is done.  Very rednecky but kind of fun to participate in.

Whoa, never heard of the sugar-water boiling method, OR the cooler method, and I'm a stones throw from West Virginia.

I tried grilling corn for the first time a few weeks ago, once done in the "soak in the husk and chuck it on there" method, and once in the "wrap it in tin foil and chuck it on there" method--both were tasty!

Grill it!

Shuck the corn, wrap it in soaking wet paper towel, then wrap in single layer of foil. grill 10 minutes per side on low heat. Deliciousness!

This works really well. Our kids love corn and we serve it several times a week. This method is not very effective for a large group, but works really well for 2-4 ears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnBF6bv4Oe4
