Pro  9391     Omaha, NE |  Subject: How many countries have you been to?In the spirit of 1stTimeTri asking about subjects that haven't been discussed I present to you this one: I spent 6 years in the Navy (91-97) and did two deployments overseas. I had the opportunity to visit the following countries: US (duh) Since I got out of the Navy I've been to: What did I learn? With the exception of Australia I really didn't like any of them all that much. |

I haven't been to all that many - USA (obvious) France England Dominican Republic Mexico Wow, that seems short - to be fair, I've been to several places within Canada - which is a pretty big country (if you hadn't heard, ha) - same with the US - but still. Lots of places to still go. I like to travel. Pretty well liked all the places. I definitely have guilt about all the poverty in Dominican and Mexico when I go there to enjoy all-inclusive gluttony. I definitely want to travel to: Holland - where my family is from Definitely a whole bunch of places in South America - particularly Peru and Argentina (not close together, though) Australia and New Zealand Spain and Portugal I heard Croatia is awesome ... Basically, give me a plane ticket and i'll go!

Outside the US, I've been to Israel, the Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, Curacao, Bonaire, Thailand, Nepal, and Tibet. I was born in Puerto Rico, but we left when I was 2, and only went back a couple of times before I was 5 or 6, so very few memories. I liked all of them for various reasons. If I had the time, I would do a lot more travelling. I have a wish list, mostly for diving and photography - Egypt, Australia and New Zealand, Fiji; posibly some other Pacific islands.. I'd like to do a photo safari in Africa at some point. Maybe some food and cultural tourism in Italy, Greece, France. Surprisingly, I am the only member of my family NOT to have spent time in England. |

Not tourist traps, but see different things Canada - Been on muliple fishing trips and twice on business. Fishing was OK, but we have great fishing in the USA also. I won't comment much on the business trips as they were a waste of my time and the companies money. Mexico - We didn't go too far into Mexico and I was pretty young, but it was definitely the poor areas that we saw and we were not really impressed.
I wish I had the money to visit other places, but I am sure that is not going to happen.

I'm from Canada and so in addition to our neighbour - the US - I've been to Germany, Prague, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Bahamas. I feel like I'm forgetting some place. My list of places to go is also very long. I find there's something to love about every place I visit. You just have to look and embrace what it has to offer. This is my thing - I go and fully explore and then say "Okay I'm done - let's move on" but then later - when no longer there - I think to myself "Hmmm well we never went north. Or to that small island..." and so I want to go back. So many places in the world and yet I've been to some of the above more than once. Like about 5x to Mexico! Italy is always calling me... Currently saving my pennies with the intent on an African safari in 2014. ETA: France - I knew I was forgetting one!! Edited by kimmax 2012-09-17 3:47 PM |
