Apparently, Mitt Romney thinks that airplanes should have working windows. Apparently Ann's plane had some electrical problems, and there was smoke in the cabin:

“I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”

Apart from the fact that opening a window is generally a bad idea when there is a fire in the area oxygen rushes in, and feeds the fire), and that airplanes are often pressurized (which would be tough if people were opening their windows), and that at 35,000 feet, the air is a might thin anyway (why does he think the people on Everest are carrying around heavy oxygen tanks?) - it shows to me either that he doesn't understand some basic science facts, or his ideas of jokes are lead balloons.

I'm only on board if we can get a sunroof.

"Well, we didn't win that vote - can we change the numerator?".

Really, Mitt. I can't vote for you because you truly are a buffoon with a chimp without cymbals as a running mate. Give me a reason, I want to. But I just can't.

And Obama has never said anything dumb... well except...

  1. "I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go." --at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon

  2. "No, no. I have been practicing...I bowled a 129. It's like -- it was like Special Olympics, or something.

  3. "UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? It's the Post Office that's always having problems." –attempting to make the case for government-run healthcare, while simultaneously undercutting his own argument, Portsmouth, N.H., Aug. 11, 2009

  4. "We're the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad." —Cincinnati, OH, Sept. 22, 2011

  5. "When I meet with world leaders, what's striking -- whether it's in Europe or here in Asia..." -mistakenly referring to Hawaii as Asia while holding a press conference outside Honolulu, Nov. 16, 2011

  6. "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."

(BTW there were another 10 or 15 more stupid comments I did not copy...)

When you are being taped and recorded every second of your waking life you're bound to say a few dumb things... I give both of them a pass in situations like this...

I agree.  When you're on camera with every word recorded, you're likely to look like an twice a day or more.

My favorite was when Obama said "and they take the kid to get a breathalizer...uh...not a breathalizer...I mean uhh...an inhalator..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbpWonUzlrc

But my all-time presidential favorite was this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKgPY1adc0A

BTW, Rick, if Ryan is a chimp without cymbals?  What does that make Uncle Joe?

That didn't work out so well for Aloha Airlines flight 243 in '88

He's a newt, no pun intended, really. He just does what the environment wants him to. I wouldn't vote for him, either. He's just less dangerous than Ryan.

Joe Biden is a lot more unintelligent, forgetful, idiotic, and downright rude than Paul Ryan from what I've seen but I don't know if that makes him less dangerous overall. As far as shaking up the esatblishment/maintaining the status quo, yes, less dangerous.

That's what I found last night whan I was looking to see if there was a small voice of reason (in print) to confirm what was obvious. Actually didn't expect to find it either. More than a little scary though if anyone gave more than half a nanosecond of though to the posibility that this might be true, and I don't really care for Romney too much. I will vote for him though.

So, my second hypothesis was correct - his delivery of a joke is pretty lame. Which is consistent with his other attempts to be funny ("I don't think this cookie was baked here. I think it was from the local 7-11 or whatever").

I hve read elsewhere that he has in the past shown genuine humor - it seems that he is so tightly wound now in his efforts to appear to be what he thinks will get him elected that his genuine self is lost. Ironically, if he was less rigid and took credit for getting a universal healthcare passed in Massachussets, which served as a model for the ACA, I would have been more likely to consider him for president.
