A small part of everyone has to wonder if a man who is known for his moral fiber all of sudden comes out with this during this time and now is most likely not going to testify in the lybia attacks.......hmmm something smells fishy... but I am sure that an organization like the CIA would never do anything to lead the american public from the truth... |

He will still be subpoenaed. He will not have his job at stake. He will just testify truthfully and completely. The problem may be that he did not disclose the affair as required under oath. Petraeus is still an upright guy. I would trust his testimony on the Libya consulate affair and his admission of an affair as truthful. I would not conflate the two. |

And, of course, he can assert his Fifth Amendment rights not to incriminate himself. I would bet the mortgage that he is called and that he testifies. I just think it is sad that he got his brains caught in his zipper. Edited by tech_geezer 2012-11-09 4:22 PM |

In most jobs requiring security clearance, an undisclosed marital affair is considered something which could be used for blackmail. In the CIA director, it would compromise national security. It is serious and specifically called out in security evaluations. |

Champion 6056 Menomonee Falls, WI | Subject: RE: CIA Director David Petraeus Resigns Whacky-crazy conspiracy theory... Obviously, Petraeus WAS having an affair. If somebody in the Administration knew about it, they could have used it as blackmail to "influence" Petraeus' testimony next week. Instead, Petraeus said "Screw you, I'll come clean myself and say what I know next week." Not surprisingly, the Administration has already announced that Petraeus will not be testifying next week, so now it will take a subpoena... and for Petraeus to stay alive until he gets called. |

Purely from a conspiracy theory standpoint I tend to agree with this line of thinking. Congressmen King was on the radio earlier right after the announcement and said there were rumors floating that the female had potentially accessed his computer. From a country standpoint I tend to think Patraeus is a patriot and would put his country in front of himself any day of the week. If something bad did happen, and he has knowledge of it I suspect he will get the truth out. If nothing bad happened and it's nothing more than thinking with his zipper then it's just fodder for the conspiracy theory nuts. |

Two things. 1) It could've happened years ago and it's breaking now so he's resigning now. That would've explained why he wasn't hitting the administration back for blaming the intelligence community. He kept a very low profile throughout the Bengazi madness before the election. 2) I don't think a guy like Patraeus would hide behind this news to keep from testifying. |

I wonder if she has ever been on BT. TW |

Ditto on the babe comment Ray. It almost sounds made up like a Bond Girl name..."Broad" Well. Great stuff. That said, a head of the CIA in this day and age, with the national security aspect of it, stepping down sounds consistent with the kind of guy Petraeus is known to be by folks who know him personally.

Veteran 549 | Subject: RE: CIA Director David Petraeus Resigns It is being reported the FBI was investigating Broadwell for harrassment regarding another woman when they came across Petraeus in her emails. Personally, dont think this has anything to do with anything other than he had an affair. Also, it is being bantered about that Majority House Leader Cantor knew about this in October. So, maybe Republicans were in on the conspiracy as well. |

I don't care if he steps down or not, plenty of qualified people to do that job....but let's not get carried away. So far, it was discovered he had an affair. That's all. |
