tweens in thongs or Victoria Secret why you got to be like that

I kind of find it odd too that a company would market it this way, although I don't necessarily think they are marketing it that way, but did admit that they could see how it might be attractive to a 12 yr old, and didn't throw up any defense.

I'm surprised at the outrage too in that it's pretty easy to tell a 12 yr old "you're not allowed to wear that, and if you want to, I want to know why."  Last time I checked, 12 yr olds don't have jobs and don't shop for their own clothes without parents present.

Seems like market conditions would solve this problem.

I won't even let my girls wear shorts or pants with stuff written across the behind.  I don't want anything that would make anyone focus on their behinds.  And if they continue to play volleyball as they get older, they are not wearing those volleyball shorts except for during games.  And they are not going on dates, or to prom, or homecoming dances, or wearing make-up, or bikinis...

Mine are 8 and 10 now - boy do I have some tough years ahead.

I specifically remember purchasing my own "sexy" panties when I was about that age. I used my own money from babysitting. I wanted something other than the granny panties I owned, I wanted pretty, girly underwear. Probably more so to not be embarrassed/fit in in the girls locker room more than anything.

Not having kids I can't comment on this issue, but being a tween who bought these kinds of undies - a big MEH. I was not a promiscuous tween or teenager, I was quite the opposite. Pretty underwear did not change that for me.

I think VS does appeal to the teens.  They go in there "to buy perfume" or get a strapless bra for their prom dress....or because their mother recognizes that their bras are better made than the stuff at most stores.....and VS almost ALWAYS has some sort of promotion going on with the other undergarments that the kids will go for if their mother's aren't saying no to ......

Unfortunately, what they are selling is honestly not much different than what you can find in Target's lingerie aisle.  Thongs, inappropriate sayings on the butt......Sadly the sexualization of our youth starts much younger than a 12 year old shopping in VS or Target.  It starts early when the toddler and young child clothes have the same cut and "edge" as the older kids/ young mom's clothing.  

As the parent of two teenage daughters (17 and almost 19) I have seen the stuff in the stores.  Unless I go all prude on them and get stuff I wouldn't even wear they aren't going to find undergarments in any store that are completely without the sexuality factor.

I've got identical twin 12 year olds......the girls are 5'7" and 120 lbs.  I care what they wear that people can see...we have frequent discussions about it.

I don't give a rats arse about their underwear.....their business.  I don't know where it comes from....or if they even wear any...or anything else about it.   At this point, it's a mom problem, if there is a problem....I'm not getting involved in their underwear.

My daughter is 8 - if she sees me in a thong she's all like "mum, that's gotta be soooooo uncomfortable, I'll never wear that!"

I'll let you know in a few years how that goes!

If it isn't VS, it will be some other store. The "message", whatever it may be this week, will be out there.

And the bottom line is simple: It is not the store's job to educate my children and teach them common sense, it's my wife's and mine.

+1 for the use of "bottom line" for the topic but I didn't think there should one with this style of underwear.

i agree with lisa here - i started buying thongs/prettier panties  and bras when i started having formal dances to go to and needed something that didn't show under my dress.  NO BOYS EVER SAW THEM.  that was WHY i was buying expensive thongs - so they COULDN'T be seen...  I DIDN'T WAKE UP SLUTTY THE NEXT MORNING.  PANTIES DON'T CAUSE PEOPLE TO BE PROMISCUOUS.
