Subject: Ring Tattoos? Anybody got one?
I am seriously considering getting a ring tattoo on my wedding finger. I hate to take off my wedding ring when I train, but I also do not want to lose it. I have had it sized before, but it always seems to get loose again. My wife is on board with that tatt, but I want to make sure it looks good. Anyone have any pics to share? I have no idea about the design I would want either...

and here I thought this was going to be about chain ring tattoos...

good idea, might hurt a bit though, seems like that could be a pretty tender area, although I see a bunch of folks with things inked on their knuckles.

My wife has one. Neither of us wear our ring if we stand any increased chance of losing them - it's just not worth it. We both understand that it's not the ring that keeps us committed.

It's looks like a vine that goes around her wedding finger and is completely covered when she wears her ring.

Call me cynical, but I got divorced after 20 years of marriage. I wouldn't get that tat.

My husband and I strongly considered doing this.  I doodled a little sketch in pen just to get an idea.  The problem was that when I do wear either my wedding ring or both the engagement and wedding rings, you just see the edges of the design from underneath and it takes away from the beauty of the jewelry.

I still think it's a really cool idea but depending on the width of the band--mine's pretty skinny--it may look kinda funky when you have the rings over it so it's something to consider.

I've seen a few, they look great for a while but I don't think they look good after a few years (at least, the ones I've seen).  You can't go all the way around - the ink won't stay on the palm side.

Here's a gallery of them. A few *are* on the inside, I actually like those a lot. Maybe you just have to get them touched up more often.

I am not worried about it being a jinx or anything else.

I think it has to be something simple though to look right

Yeah, if someone has such little faith in their relationship that they think a tattoo might "jinx" it, that's a problem...

Use a Sharpe a few times to try to out patterns and decide whether you like the concept or not.

I take my ring off for anything that involves swimming, because it gets loose when wet. In reality, your commitment isn't an object, but an attitude.

What if the Governor bites your finger off like he did to Merle?  Are you technically divorced at that point?

My wife and I have talked about it off and on as well. More for me than her, I am the one always taking mine off for different activities. Mine is big and heavy so even running or biking I will take it off as it slides around once I start sweating.

Also a tat on my finger would be easily hidden behind my ring, not so much for her.

But we haven't really pursued it or looked at designs.

I went and talked to a shop this afternoon. It is going to be very inexpensive and we talked about keeping it simple. Going to look at doing something cool with our wedding date!

When one of the kids make it to the Olympics, the whole family is going to get the rings tattoo.

My other half was going to get one, he liked the infinity symbol. I like the way that one looks (it's also the first pic on the link Lisa posted). It was for HIM, as he has lost 2 rings in 2 years and I wouldn't let him buy another one. He went as far as to go look at designs and met with the artist. He never expected me to get one, but when I said, "You know I'm going to make fun of you" he changed his mind and got a latin phrase in a different location. I think they are great for some people, but I wouldn't get one. I think when he loses ring #3, he'll probably go back for the tattoo.

I am not a tattoo person and after looking at that gallery, I am definitely not a "wedding-ring-tattoo" person.

Half those tattoos looked like prison tattoos.. ie, sloppy, bleeding colors, misshapen. It must have something to do with the skin in that area because most of those did not look like good tattoos (I can appreciate the art of a good tattoo even if I don't want one).

If I had been considering it before, I wouldn't be any longer.

But, but, but... the gallery is titled 43 Awesome Wedding Ring Tattoos. They have to be good.

One of my main hesitations is the fact that I don't think a finger tattoo is going to hold up very well.

My wife has a tattoo on one of her toes, it looks like a smudge 7 years later. Hard to tell what it is supposed to be.

I know a foot is going to sweat more than a hand, but I could see a finger tat going bad over time.

x2. The last thing in the world I want is a prison wedding ring tattoo!

I have a tattoo on my ring finger as well, and I enjoy it.  It's not a band; I opted for a small infinity symbol.  In my line of work, I'm not always able to wear jewelry, so my ring comes off frequently.  I have also lost one ring on a parachute jump into Lake Tahoe (it's at the bottom in the northern part of the lake if you feel like searching...probably still looped around the band of my Casio Pathfinder watch that was ripped off my wrist by my static line as I exited the back of the 130).

Congrats on getting your ink done!
