Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone else have animals that are obnoxious?!!? Maybe I've just been in a grumpy mood lately (completely possible.) But the 1 cat (of 2) and both dogs are driving me nuts! The cat wants to cuddle and rub, and I shoo her away...and get her off the couch..but she keeps coming back! Both dogs follow me around, and we're convinced that the grey-lab is near sighted because in order to smell things he has to put his nose in it. (Regardless of the fact that he is a sight hound and a scent hound...and inconvenient because of his height, his head is right at your crotch) Currently the littler dog is rubbing against my foot that is hanging off the couch, isn't petting yourself cheating?? I was puppy sitting a guide dog and a woman in Costco chatted with me for a bit. I told her we had 2 rescues at home and we're hoping that some of the well behaving tendencies of the young puppy will rub off on our 2. She said something that struck me as a bit odd at the time, but after thinking about it...I completely get it! She said, "You are their savior...and you plot their death everyday." Granted, we got both the pups when they were adults (2 and 3 years), so maybe a rescue would be different had they been puppies. We're already saying our next dog(s)- which will hopefully be years away, considering the boys are 5 - will be retired or career change (dogs that don't make it as guide dogs) guide dogs or retired grey hounds!! The time I enjoy the most, with the smaller dog, is when he is sleeping! ![]() (PhotoGrid_1366655572311.jpg) Attachments ---------------- PhotoGrid_1366655572311.jpg (61KB - 19 downloads) |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes. We have a very, very needy cat. She HAS to be with you every minute of the day. We have to shut our bedroom door at night to keep her out. In the morning, she is laying just outside the door and starts meowing like crazy. Wouldn't be so bad but we're constantly tripping over her or stepping on her because she is just always at your feet. She is a sweet little thing and we love her but sometimes you just want to tell her to "get a life". Hope all is going well with you Lisa. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If it makes you feel better, my wife and I spent Saturday night in the Kitty ER because our cat had a giant abscess on his butt pop and start leaking gross stuff everywhere. (for what it is worth it was pretty quick growing - noticed something on Friday night when he got testy when I picked him up but nothing there, had a bump on Saturday morning and then saturday night happened.) $400 later we are out of there and monitoring his issues. Also our dog who broke her leg last year just started limping like something is wrong...with her other front leg. I love these animals to death but they surely like to drain the bank accounts |

I had pet insurance for a few years, but paying for 4 animals, you don't necessarily save money. However, when Bounce got sick while we were gone and I took him to the vet and he stopped breathing shortly after ![]() I hope your animals heal quickly and are doing well!! |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ours specialize in driving us nuts. Our youngest cat (who just turned one) is INCREDIBLY obnoxious. His main goal in life is to A) destroy anything and everything in his path and B) try and eat it, too. I have seen him drag 17 lb bags of kibble out of the room and growl at anyone trying to take it from him. Our younger dog is a rescue, and exceptionally needy. She has to have all of the attention all of the time. This is especially irritating when I am trying to do PT with the older dog. And I don't think a day goes by without someone vomiting on something, somewhere. The good days are when we find it with our eyes first, instead of bare feet or fingers. And now, we've got one cat in renal failure who gets special food and fluids daily, and one three-legged cancer dog who has more pills than all the Golden Girls combined, and won't eat for crap, and I spend half my free time at home moving people from one room to the other so one won't steal another's food or one can do his therapy without interuptions, and pilling, and poking, and cleaning up after them all :D Granted, we have six animals. This is not an unexpected thing... but with two "special needs" animals, and all six of them with their own peccadilloes...yeah, it can get frustrating. And I fully admit to wanting to strangle my dog some days. I GET that he is sick. And I get that this has all sorts of affects, aside from the obvious--but holy crappo, he is STUBBORN...and being elderly and infirm has NOT made him any more tractable. :p It just makes me feel more guilty for making him do stuff. :p |

![]() Yes, our animals enjoy picking on one another which just ends up making ME crazy. The pup has a kennel to sleep in at night. The cats have nice soft pillows. One cat has decided he wants the kennel so when the pup goes out the cat goes in. Then the dog has a barking fit trying to get the cat out while the cat scratches away at the dog. We put the kitty litter and cat food up high out of reach from the dog on top of the back deck of our boat. Now the dog has figured out how to jump up onto the riding lawn mower to get onto the boat and get all the kitty stuff. We've just sent the pup away to doggie training camp for a week. Fingers crossed he comes back with better manners! |

We did decide that our kitty is going to get a Kitty sized "cone of shame" today to stop his liking...things. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to that. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() surprised nobody pointed out that they PROBABLY are acting out because you are pregnant. you smell different and they know something is up. when i was pregnant, my dogs went into super clingy protective mode, would NEVER leave me alone. they do the same thing when i'm sick or upset. i think it's sweet. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My cat has recently decided that he's supposed to pee in the sink. Gross! Maybe he think's it's a cat-sized toilet? I was relieved that he seems to have outgrown the habit of delivering nighttime "gifts" of dead (or live) cockroaches and geckoes, or portions thereof, but now this.......And this is the critter to whom I smuggle cans of "treat" cat food from Singapore, as he won't eat any canned food sold in Vietnam. If only that were true...but this behavior isn't new. I seriously don't know why they like me so much. I'm not all that nice to them...I don't even feed them! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One of our cats has now peed outside the litter box three days this week, and it's only Thursday. He seems to have a food anxiety issue, at least that's my theory. If when we come home, we don't feed him fast enough, he'll go to the litter box, and everything starts out OK. Pee is going down into the litter. Then as he's finishing, it comes back like a fire hose, across the litter box, up the side, and out to the floor/wall. We've tried enclosed litter boxes (stands outside, pees into the box, mostly hitting the back wall) and high wall, but he seems to rise to the challenge each time. We're not sure what to next, other than try and feed him ASAP when we come home. BTW, they don't free-range feed, they get portions of food several times a day. Weight is excellent for all four. |
