Champion 17756 SoCal | Subject: RE: Texas cheerleaders win in court again over Bible banners I think the law is clear on it and glad they won from that aspect but as for the idea of the sign I think its lame. If you really believe in god then he is for everyone not just YOUR high school football team because that is really what he is caring about. Lame. |

Veteran 622 Roll Tide!! | Subject: RE: Texas cheerleaders win in court again over Bible banners I love it! It does not mean that God is against the other team, it doesn't mean He will give this team some 'special powers' so they will necessarily win the game. It is just an awesome encouraging word from the Bible for those who believe. Think of it like if you are watching two of your kids play on opposing teams, it really doesn't matter who wins the game- you are still 'for' them. And it's a great feeling to know your Father is on your side, win or loose. |

As a person who played HS football I would bet if you asked the cheerleaders away from the reporters the sign is to say god is for them. |

Also as a person that played HS football, I would bet if you asked players or cheerleaders away from reporters that no one believes that GOD has a favorite high school football team. |

As someone who played football in TEXAS, we prayed before games, we prayed at halftime, and we prayed after the game....for safety, for perseverence, for strength.....not to win or to have the other team lose. It's a shame that this had to go to court several times...... |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Texas cheerleaders win in court again over Bible banners I can't wait for the backlash when a verse from another "Holy Book" gets displayed at a Texas Football game. Then everyone gets to go to court and be on the other side of the fence. But I personally think they should be able to put pretty much anything on their 'signs'. |

It's ok Texas high school football isn't that good anyways There are six man football games that are better than watching NCAA FBS games for attendance and players following the basics. Reason it's ok to bring religion to Texas Football...Texas Football IS a Religion... |

Your idea about "keeping religion out of schools" is wrong. 1A "...prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion..." So the court cases have come to the conclusion the school staff cannot originate religious speech unless it's within the lesson plan of a class. It goes on with "...abridging the freedom of speech,..." and this, along with the cannot impeded the free exercise of religion means the students (who are NOT government employees) have the right to make their banners within obscenity laws. Yes it matters. The staff are considered "the government" so are severely restricted in being able to originate any religious discussion. The students still have wide latitude with freedom of speech. |

It was an honest question. Why the need to be condescending and rude? Was not and am not being condescending or rude. I asked if the poster was kidding (which might be the case) and then explained what the current state of court cases is in reference to "keeping religion out of schools", that statement being inconsistent with the 1st Amendment, current cases as well as the case under discussion. Then went on to say that "the government" includes the staff of the school but does not include the students, who still have freedom of both exercise of religion as well as speech on their side for such banners. Neither condescending nor rude. |
