Comments:

DNF- pulled from course at 3:15 at mile 2.5 did not reach mile 4 cut off in allotted time. Got cough in current switch and was making little or no progress the last 1/4 mile or so. I was at my expected pace fro the first two miles (mile 1 @ 37 min, mile 2 at about 1:15) a bit slow to mile 3. However shortly after I stopped for some food and drink the current became a problem and it was all I could do just to stay within the bridges. Tacking like a sailboat taking over an hour to do the 1/2 mile before they pulled me out. Total swim time was what I expected for the full race and I might have even covered the 4.1 with all the "tacking" I did the last 1/2 mile.
What would you do differently?:

Need more practice swimming is strong currents. Race started 10 min late and maybe if swam a bit faster the first half I could have gotten further along before the strong tides hit.

Well Tsvi, you aimed for the stars... and, like you said, probably did the 4.4 with all the tacking. Pretty impressive in my book and you probably had it except for the current. You'll appreciate a good, short 2 mi swim in a lake in July! Well done! See you at Chris Greene!

That's quite an effort. Sounds like a very fun, exciting challenge. What were the water temps like?

Soon after I got married, I decided I needed to get motivated to work out and focus on getting back into shape. I could barely jog a quarter-mile without needing a walk break.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.

You’re probably not going to get it just right immediately. Like always, just do the best you can and keep on keeping on. Don’t get upset if you don’t hit the target every time.
