Everything I've read and seen on the flying mount and dismount has been barefoot. Is there anyone that does this with socks? I'm curious because I ride and run with socks currently, and am looking at the best method for when I get a pair of triathlon cycling shoes.

I've thought of running without socks, but that is when I encounter problems with blisters. Never had a blister until I tried going without socks. My current road cycling shoes cause me same issues. I have not gotten a pair of triathlon cycling shoes yet, so don't know if it will cause blisters. If it doesn't, then I'll just slip on socks in T2. If it does, I'm thinking I might need socks in T1.

Just curious if anyone else has dealt with needing socks in T1 and then doing a flying mount and dismount.

Thanks...Thomas

Socks go on in T2. If you have blister issues going sockless in bike shoes, you need new bike shoes.

Socks are for running and temps under about 50.

I have done this on occasion when there is a short run from the rack to the mount line. No problems, in fact my feet went in the shoes a lot easier than barefoot. In the end, do what makes you comfortable and more efficient, not what others say you should be doing.

In T1 I put on my socks and shoes, and then do a flying mount and clip in once past the mount line. I can have both socks and both shoes on in under ten seconds.

I will second the comment that if your bike shoes are giving you blisters they are probably not the right size. I also get blisters when running more than around 5k without socks, but never on the bike regardless of distance.

I go sock less. I tried it with socks in a very cold duathlon. My socks got stuck on the Velcro of my shoes. It did not work out well for me. The next year same cold duathlon, I wore shoes out of and into transition.
