Below is some information on the Serotta Colorado frame: When you ride a Colorado, you will understand why we love steel road bikes, and why Serotta has been so successful over the years. The Serotta Colorado is the epitome of steel performance. It rides incredibly smooth, but you can flick it or accelerate with aggression, and it responds with confidence, rock solid, but always so damn smooth. If steel were something "new," this frame would be a goddess and popular as heck, but because all the marketing hustle is based on carbon fiber, amazing steel frames like this one go mostly unnoticed by the general public. But, WE ARE NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC. Although Serotta built frames with standard Columbus tube sets as early as 1974 it wasn't until 1986 that a new high mark for innovation was set with the development of the Colorado Concept tube platform. The Colorado featured true performance enhancing shaping- tapers, ovals and bends, in ways not previously utilized. The 1986 Colorado was the 'missing link' between bicycle design before 1986 and modern bike design. In the years BC (before Colorado), top frames were all made from the same standard tube sets from a handful of suppliers. Whether steel, aluminum, titanium and carbon frames were constructed of one dimensional tubes resulting in frame performance that was also one dimensional. Frames with smaller tubes were comfortable but perhaps not much under acceleration. Frames with larger tubes were very stiff in the drive-train but were also uncomfortably harsh. The 'Colorado Concept' was the first frame that merged comfort, performance and individual ride tuning. Its tapered tubes and curved chain stays were highly avant-garde at the time. Today the 'S' bend chain stay is featured on almost every road bike produced in the world and every major brand talks about the combined virtues of performance with comfort.
