When you get to swimming in the lake or pool measure the amount of strokes you take in a given distance.
Then divide the distance by the number of strokes taken and you will come up with the distance traveled with 1 stroke.
Then how ever many strokes you take on the total gym multiply it by the distance traveled in 1 stroke and that will be the distance you've traveled.
I don't know what to tell you about your final workouts.
I think you have an idea of what works for you.
I just remember that the taper for the Ironman wasn't an immediate relief. The workouts were less but were gradually less.
