Subject: Bike log math
Hello, First time posting here but I signed up and am using the 12 week RPE program for an Olympic Tri. So far all has been well until today's bike workout. It the fist time my math isn't working and I have no idea what is wrong (maybe its the decafe coffee).

What am I missing below to get 85 min? No matter what i do I can't get 85 out of it.

Bike ME
Muscular Endurance
85
WU 15’
MS: 5x3' w/ 1’ RI. Repeat w/ 15’ of Zn riding in btween sets.
#1 End at low RPE 7
#2 End at middle RPE 7
#3 End at upper RPE 7
#4 End at upper RPE 8
#5 Build to RPE 8 in first 45s and hold.
CD: 15’

Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi Bob

I wrote the workout so let me give it a shot explaining it:

15' warm up.

5x3 with 1' recovery = 20'. (35' total)

Then 15' recovery takes you to 50 minutes total.

Do the main set again = 20', so now you are up to 1:10 total.

15' cool down brings you to 1:25 total.

Make sense?

Mike, Thanks for the quick reply, you helped in email as well for my swimming. It is much appreciated!! That makes complete sense to me now. I had "Duh" moment after reading your explanation. I was adding the 15 minute cool down in the wrong spots and for some reason not really looking at it as a "complete set (1-5)" then a cool down, then "complete set" again. Really must of been the decafe..... Thank you again.

This program is pretty fun and trying, thanks for that too!!

No problem - happy to help when / where I can.

Maybe the workout is too complicated.

I'm glad to hear it's fun and challenging - that's what we want a- balance of those two. Keep it interesting and fun, yet keep it challenging.
