Total Time = 1h 36m 41s
Overall Rank = 177/371
Age Group = 25-29 Men
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Woke up a 5:30. Coffee, black. Ate clif bar on way to race site.
Setup transition at about 7:00 after getting chipped and tagged.
Transition closed at 7:30, but my wave didn't go until 10:30! So I killed time and watched the pros. Drank fluids.
Event warmup:

Had 1 Gu packet about 20 min before go time.
Swam about 10 min after stretching, before my wave went.
Swim
  • 11m 47s
  • 650 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

First time having to swim over/around people. Was interesting!
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. Wave would have been nicer about having to swim over/around other people. :)
Transition 1
  • 03m 20s
Comments:

Got hungup putting on singlet. Dropped Gu's and had to pick them up. About 2:30 faster than my last T1. Getting better. :)
What would you do differently?:

Get a singlet I can wear through the swim.
Bike
  • 52m 28s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Using mtn bike is definitely getting old. Had a bit of headwind on slight uphill. Sucked.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get aero. I need to get non-knobby tires. I need to get a tri bike. :) I should be able to break 1:30 if I had a tri bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Good T2. Just a long T area. :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much, this went smooth.
Run
  • 27m 24s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I pushed hard on the bike trying to ride mtn bike and keep pace with the tri bikes. Legs were rocks on 1st mile. Warmed up last 2 miles. Ran semi-sprint on last 1/2 mile.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more bricks. Run more/longer. Need to work on this the most.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of tri bike. Run pace.

Event comments:

*Lots* of people ( I was race number 2534 ). Good job keeping it organized. Sucked a bit though being stuck waiting from 2 hours before the sprint course started. Next year, I'll do the olympic. :D

Congrats on a great race. Until you can buy a different bike, slick tires on your mountain bike will help quite a bit. Every thing sure seemed to go well for you. Nice job.

just a thought...for my first tri this year putting on the singlet in t1 with a wet body sucked...my last tri a week ago, i wore it on the swim with my pearl izumi shorts...it worked great.  dried off super fast too.  after that experience, i think putting on any shirt relatively tight in the t1 is asking for trouble...thats why many where one peice tri suits for the whole tri (if u dont need a wetsuit)

great race!

Hmmm, I'll have to try the singlet during the swim. My concern is that it would add drag and slow me down.

I suppose if I get a wetsuit, it'll be a moot point.

Next for me is:

o Run some local 5k/10k races in august/sept/october. Running is where I need the most work.
o Get a proper bike w/ aerobars. I'm hooked, so it's time to take the plunge.
o Do an olympic in september, likely the Lake Geneva one on Sept. 11.
o Do a sprint in Colorado ( Fall Chill ) for my birtday on the 26th ( also so my parents can see me
race. Might do this as an olympic if I feel daring enough ).

Woooooooo! I'm still floating on a cloud from the race. :D

Good job! I'm totally impressed that you're biking that fast with a MTB with knobby tires - way to go!!

You should do the Fall Chill in CO - it sounds fun. I'm considering it as my next tri

Well done Chris;
Alas I didn't spot a BT singlet otherwise your photo would have graced my photo album here.
Olympic next year eh? I might just be able to be tempted to do that next year too. I'll let you know in 3 weeks
