Pre-race routine:

So happy I got to sleep in a little, the race didn't start until 8:30 a.m. Drove to the race and got irritated that a local business owner was standing out in his parking lot yelling 'NO RACE PARKING HERE" - ummm don't you own a restaurant that serves breakfast? Guess where 1,000 people WON'T be eating in about 30 minutes? LOL

Walked about 1/2 mile from where I had to park and met up with my Start 2 Finish running group - Jeannie, Nancy, Susan and Robert were all there so it was nice to be with friends.

Comments:

At the very beginning everyone got stuck behind four high school girls walking four abreast and no one could get around. So I tapped one on the shoulder and tried to be super nice and say "hey gals, would you mind not walking four abreast so others can get around you?" and they moved quickly. Hoping I wasn't the mean old lady but everyone thanked me.

Lovely run through a neighborhood, I ran pretty much the whole time with Jeannie and Nancy, since Susan and Robert took off faster. There were a lot of people running with dogs and jog strollers - just one of those kind of races.

Never pushed too hard, but never walked or slowed way down. A great warm up for the additional 8 miles we had to get done for our long run!
Post race
Warm down:

Found the Start 2 Finish group, took a photo, then made plans to head to Sedgwick County Park to knock out the rest of our long run.

Event comments:

Great local race benefiting ICT SOS - a charity that aims to stop human trafficking in Wichita. Plenty of dogs and strollers, but a lovely run through a residential area.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.
