Good afternoon BT! Not much for me today--got in at 3.30am from my Tahoe trip-such a beautiful place for a meet! We finished 5th as a team out 13 teams I think. My top runner placed 15th out of 200--happy with that especially since it was a mix of Div I, II, III schools--we're a little Div III school.I did get out and hike with the dogs today just to move a bit. Now it's couch time--I have some race reports to read!

55 mile bike ride with 5,000ft of elevation gain, category 1 climb (3,800ft) in the first 10 miles!

Trying to prep for a 104 mile ride with 9,000ft of climbing next weekend, not sure I am ready. Thinking I might be setting myself up for a crash (fatigue) or muscle injury.

Might be the first time I actually have to back down on a event. Training this summer has just been off due to heavy smoke from multiple wildfires, high heat, constant winds, and a new job that has me driving up to 700-800 miles per week!

Either way, great bike ride today! Lovely location, very challenging, great weather, fun friends.

Thanks for your comments and congrats on the meet. I truly am living proof that Murphy's law applies! I guess doing an extra lap of the bike course at Worlds (if that's indeed what happened--the only other explanation for what I saw/experienced would be falling asleep for 20+ km, or riding into the Twilight Zone) is a kind of a tri tale for the ages. OMG I hope that never happens during a full IM. Can you imagine someone doing that at Kona?

Anyway, 3500m of swimming. Stuff that I don't usually do during the race season--lots of IM's (medley, not Ironman). It was a hot sticky day. Hadn't planned on that much but pool just felt so good and avoiding work I didn't want to do!

Congrats on the meet Kim! Tahoe sounds like a beautiful place to do, well, anything.

3 mile run for me tonight after the sun went down. Still hot and sticky here too.

Nice work today my friends

This morning it was hit the road at 3:45 to make it to Monticello for my second (and last) triathlon for the season. I wasn't expecting it to actually be held as the forecast was calling for thunderstorms, and they had a tornado warning the night before. It rained for pretty much the entire event, from just a mist to a steady rain.

I was about a minute off on my swim (sighting was horrible...), but I was almost a minute faster on the run. I think the run was quicker because the bike was about a mile shorter at 11 miles.

It was a fun race. There were only 33 participants, so it was a bit friendlier than the other race I did with over 200 racers. (That's not to say the Valpo Tri wasn't friendly; it was just a lot more people...)

Since they are an hour ahead of us, I was able to run the race, go to the awards lunch, and still be home by 11:30 in time to pick my daughter up from swimming practice.

I did get a bit out of routine though with my plank and pushups. I didn't do those until about 7:30 tonight instead of my usual first thing in the morning while the coffee brews.

Nice one J White! The fun ones are often more fun than the big ones

Do we really need chia, spelt, and quinoa? Is anything wrong with old-fashioned peanut butter, broccoli and brown rice?

We have new 10 and 20 week training plans for the New Year! These mini sprint plans are very conservative and will get any person thinking of training for a triathlon ready to cross the finish-line.

Cotswold super sprint - UK. Lots of bodies colliding, I swam half over someone, got kicked by some bloody breaststroker, and as a mob we poured towards the first buoy.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
