2:41 for 14th woman overall.

Can she crush the run or what ?

Meh.... That is about what I would expect from someone with her level of fitness, but presumably limited marathon-specific training. When I was a bit younger than she is, I ran a 2:43 on a tough course, but certainly couldn't have won the Olympic triathlon gold medal, if indeed there had been one! ITU and Olympics are a different ball game--more about balanced speed in all three disciplines..

What I really wonder is what RINNY would do in an open marathon. I expect that at her top fitness she would be into the low to mid 2:30's; with a run focus, who knows?! My guess is knocking on the door of world class.

I agree with that. Remember when Desiree Ficker switched from triathlon to open marathons? She always had such a strong run leg, and while she didn't ever make the Olympic team, she posted some nice results. And Rinny's run legs are so much stronger than Desiree's ever were.

She had just won Island House the weekend before (three straight days of Tris). Her longest previous run was supposedly 18 miles. I believe she ran the first 1/2 at a sub 2:29 pace, and really slowed the last 1/3 of the marathon. A lot of folks think that with a proper build up and taper, she could likely go well under 2:30.

I was thinking the same thing.

She had a terrible build-up and executed poorly, and still managed a fairly respectable time and placing.

Would be interesting to see what she could do with the right conditions and execution.

But it sounds like her next priority will be starting a family....even after that, didn't sound like marathoning was high on her list of things to pursue. Not saying she wouldn't be a strong marathoner if she focused on it, but it really is a different beast than shorter-distance tri, not just in terms of training but the physical skills and mindset required and pacing. From what she said about her pacing, that sounds like a very painful way to run 2:41!
