When I was a bit younger than she is, I ran a 2:43 on a tough course, but certainly couldn't have won the Olympic triathlon gold medal, if indeed there had been one! ITU and Olympics are a different ball game--more about balanced speed in all three disciplines..
What I really wonder is what RINNY would do in an open marathon. I expect that at her top fitness she would be into the low to mid 2:30's; with a run focus, who knows?! My guess is knocking on the door of world class.
I agree with that. Remember when Desiree Ficker switched from triathlon to open marathons? She always had such a strong run leg, and while she didn't ever make the Olympic team, she posted some nice results. And Rinny's run legs are so much stronger than Desiree's ever were. |
